It has renewed my love for trance, and yes, like it or not, epic "Ligaya-style-put-your-hands-up-in-the-air" trance is dead. Progressive, subtle trance is the new sound, as prog and trance slowly merges from the trends set in late 2000. Have a listen to the set and be convinced.

Actually, I heard that live saturday...only problem with that is that I can ID every track on it except for 1 or 2...Maybe I'm just pissed off from what I've been listening to in record stores recently.

start listening to progressive. it's a whole new experience

I think this year has been awesome! You just have to look hard enough. I remember the beginning of this year where amazing tracks were release on a consistent basis week after week. I don't remember a year where I was consumed with so many great tunes in such a short span of time, I was in heaven. :)
DJ Cubano
I love trance, I think that the music this year has been good, but that's just me.

I think that this year has pretty much shadowed a bit to 98/99 with the remixed and some of the best trance classics out there, as well the re-relesases of dozens of classics, its nice to hear after almost 4 years remakes of energy 52 .. trance allstar ... solar stone..art of trance.. etc etc.. but I admit that lately it all just kinda sounds the same, but, as every other time DJ's impress me with the sounds, Armin van Buuren had me drooling over his sets in around the summer season, so did tiesto with his Dutch Dimension set ..looks like some have forgotten all the tracks that we were all over on good pieaces.. but its just NOW that it seems that what seemed to be the COMEBACK of the classics years has slowed .. and that is like a disappointment .. except for Paul van Dyk .. and can get Blank and Jones on the list.. this guys are great trance uplifters..

Anyways.. I can also see the fusion .. and I think it started way back in 2000 with tracks such as from Planisphere.. progressive trance.. with that touch of Uplifting at its best, and the sounds of Sandra Collins .

Anyhow, my signature demonstrates what, to me , were the best years till date.
Stories
I think this year has been pretty decent overall. Granted I'm also much more into the epic/uplifting as well, but this newer, progressive style stuff isn't bad either. I think Tiesto's set on Thursday (10/17) at Avalon was pretty good! He spinned a LOT of new stuff and I could only ID about 5-6 songs during the set. He was able to spin a lot of hard and uplifting trance as well (although he did spin a few older songs [ie. Plastic Boy - Silverbath]).

Don't know if it was produced this year, but Eon - Pocket Damage is freaking awesome... in my opinion of course. Sun Decade - I'm Alone (Ronski Speed Remix) is also an awesome song. Fire and Ice - San Antonio is AWESOME. What about Solar Stone - Solarcoaster? How about Nu-NRG's set @ Orgasmatron 9/7/02, they spinned a LOT of their newer songs... set is freaking ridiculuous, makes me cream myself... :eyes:
E-Trancer
I'm sad to see that trance's evolution is to go softer and softer... no more energy expect some artists (Nu-NRG, Shokk..).
Now trance is more a "home listening" than "party music" :(
Stiffmaster
nope i dont think so. all armin van buuren remixes this year are very energetic!! armin is the most improved man 2002!!
PulsatE
I agree trance this year hasn't been all that good. There still have been some great tracks but not one of its best years for sure. But then again depends on individual taste

:haha: Looks like you don't know what you talkin about if any of them were cheese they wouldn't be where they are, maybe you can take over eh

Critizing/blaming any artist is childish and senseless, and I guess I can expect a feud here from above, although my intentions are not hostile

As for trance being good or bad.
Trance is never boring to me, maybe you're just bored of it, cause you never got into it deep enough, or you're not looking hard enough.

Check out some progressive/dark stuff

Peace

Hehe hope I won't get killed now!

I think maybe all the mp3 stuff is the reason for "what you think" bad music today!

You see with all the mp3 releasing groups today, nearly every new record is out on mp3 befor 95% of the DJs have this tune! You see a new Tiesto Remix, download it, and listen and listen to it again and again! Three weeks later the first Djs spin the tune, 2 month later you can buy it as vinyl and 6 month later the CD comes! Then you have the tune already for 6 month and you don't like it anymore, yo have already new mp3s and can't listen to the songs anymore! When you don't have the mp3s you hear it the first time in the radio or in a club, a DJ spinning it, then 2 month later you see the vinyl, maybe buys it if you have a turntabel if not 6 month later you have it "fresh" on CD!

Then people say in 98/99 everything was better! Sure how many people from you were then already online, knew about trance or even downlaoded mp3s. What do you think how many mp3 groups were available then (comapared with today)?!

I think in 99/98 was the same quality like now, only you didn't hear all the crap, because it wasn availabel for you, the DJs didn't play it. You got the good stuff from the DJs, radio ... and that is what stays in your mind!

I think the same reason is also why progressive got more and more popular. Progressive has mostly no catchy strings that you directly know. Progressive is more "anonymus", as you say it is not so cheesy! This is the reason, it stays longer "fresh" then a "cheesy" tune and because people were pissed off all the "cheesy" directly knowing sound (because of there mp3s) they looked for something new and progressive was there and waiting!

Only my opinion!
