Book your room now, well, this weekend. Memorial Day is May 30th weekend next year. Uusually you can book a year in advance. |

day three i wandered around because matador was probably the worst set I've heard in a while. no idea why it was put on in the techno stage. it sounded like inbred carni music with lame drops. nina kraviz before was good. better than at her afterparty where robert hood just.... he just robert hood. day three the main reason why i even left the hotel to was to see steve rachmad so i must say he disappointed me the most. it wasn't bad, it sounded like the volume was turned down a bit even. he had some good moments. ben sims surprised me the most. he woke me up form my zombie like state. but yea after nina the underground stage started emptying and there was no music going on to my liking so i ate a bit and went back to rachmad to a pretty empty stage. it didn't feel right leaving though. so much techno i need a little breather from it for a good couple hours id say.
Best sets of weekend in order: robert hood @ populux. cell injection (audio injection b2b drum cell) day 1, ben klock day 2 according to my friend, steffi day 2 regis day 1, rodhad dettmann ben sims all equally good.
moment of the festival was regis dropping factory music, and almost every robert hood track at populax.
my friend nearly dragged me out to rebel rave but by the end i just couldn't handle more music. stayed at roberts river walk and it was actually pretty dope, had a view of the river and windsor from my hotel.
walking around a lot especially day 1 and 3 the people working places and people walking on the streets were loads nicer than toronto lol |

How bad was it overall crowd/lineup etc wise? I was gonna go this year as probably my last DEMF/Movement but decided not to due to reasons.. but heard it was super packed, lineup ridic etc. I had some good friends from London that I recommended going for their first time and they were majorly disappointed.
Perhaps a new venue needed as they talked about a few years ago? |

well i guess ill list the negatives. border dicks day one. and walking to the festival seeing this massive line, quickly to realize its to get your bands. i got mine in the mail so i had no issue. it reminded me of a canadas wonderland ride queue line, say top gun, while the ride was stuck. i was mostly camped in the underground stage, so in there that bathroom was pretty filthy. day one it wasn't bad. day two a urinal was clogged and piss was pouring out and people kept pissing. there was one dude collapsed on the floor in a stall and every knew it wasn't water on the floor. some guys pry the door open to help him and he tells them to leave and he had drugs all over his pants lmao, still doing keys. still on day two, my choice of food, made me leave the festival right at the closing set. i bought too much and i had to yack so i just went back to the hotel to sleep it off before the hood after party (i saw klock a few weeks back). back to day one. went to check out the deep chord afterparty and some other dudes were on the list but i forget who they were. no drinks or food of any sort to be purchased at the venue (abandoned warehouse) but they had some like gypsy and merch stands. only 3 port o potties for bathroom. it was kinda cool and surreal all dark and stuff, apparently you could bring in liquor but the surrounding area wasn't the nicest. me and my friend went on a search but nearly found some trouble. as for the festival i couldnt find any toilet paper or tissue (stuffy nose 24/7). in hindsight i could have gotten it with food lol.
getting in and out of the underground stage was difficult, there was only one ramp and ppl would stand there and dance there as well as two way traffic.
musically it was just short of my dream line up and I'm probably going back next year.
if you plan to go next year don't reserve and roberts riverwalk. i like the hotel but they just won't save your reservations . they told us at the desk, first come first serve basically. if you're out of luck and don't have a hotel go there but get there EARLY. we got held up at the border for 2 and a bit hours and when me and my friend arrived we were the very last people or second last to get a room. we had reserved a room prior as well and they would have given that away. my friend wants to stay there again but i think I'm going to do the westin and try to meet some of the DJs that will stay there next year and know full well my room will be reserved... |

VIP ticket is the way to go. No lines + separate entrance, clean AIR CONDITIONED bathrooms with running water, cheaper drinks (only by a dollar but ehhh) and way easier ways to get around to the main stage + MID stage + RBMA stage.
Worth it for the bathrooms alone omg. |

Yeah, pay the extra and be proactive and go with VIP early birds and get your Westin room booked ASAP if you can. Even if you can, book ANY decent room now (if you don't have to prepay) and just have it in your pocket.
3rd year in a row at the Westin and with Earlybird VIP. No issues. This year the ONLY issues I had was that if I went earlier I would have gone in the main cluster of a line, and somehow instead of my double room, they gave me a corner suite with a king bed. So, one of us had to sleep on the couch. Oh well.
I'm off to take another nap. |
