Maybe not directly, but it is very possible that they sponsored that terrorist act. Chechens terrorists who were in the theatre are islamic extremists, just like Al-Queda. So you could argue that situation in moscow is just as important to Americans as the sniper. Unfortunately average american probably doesn't recognize this, hence doesn't want to watch it. What CNN does? Instead of educating him, they shows him what he wants to see. Thus more people watch CNN, hence more expensive advertisement, hence CNN makes more money.

A possiblity? could be, but that dont mean that all muslim people are into alqaeuda, including the extremists. But as events unfold it will be interesting to see what happens. The Demon has spoke.

The ability to "recognize this" as you put it is the exact evidence disproving your theory. American's don't see the sitution in Moscow as a threat because it isn't. And hence they don't recognize it as so.

Are you also trying to say that Russia is validated in it's occupation? The intolerance of the Russian government is the issue at hand, not ing CNN.

CNN makes money, let's all hate them? Since when is it their job to educate the public? At the end of the day they are just a television station, watch at your own discretion. Do I blame NBC for not putting me through University.

I'm pretty sure this topic is massive in it's entirety and a rant on how America sucks and how CNN is money hungry won't solve much on a trance msg board. hah :stongue:

halo,
I see no flaud in Durafei's statement. Can you please elaborate on what you mean because your paragraph does not make sense.

The American's dont know if, whats happening in Russia, is a threat or not, so they compare it to something like the sniper situation. They hear that the sniper is in their neighbourhood which gets them worried. They also hear about some Russians doing something, because they dont know what its all about, they dont see the Russian situation as dangerous. Therefore they want to watch the sniper coverage. And CNN gladly proceeds.

Ok.. Imagine the following situation.. 50 people from Afghanistan take over some theatre in New York and demand US to leave Afghanistan.

What do you do? Leave Afghanistan? DIdn't think so.
Russia is in the same position.

Alright Alright, here we go, without getting too personal.

Dr. Z: At the end of the day, the Russian situation is NOT as detrimental to the average U.S citizen as say the Sniper attacks. Regardless what Al Quaeda connections are made (which imo is a weak correlation in the first place) or what kind of people are dying in what country. You have a hard time convincing me that someone shooting up your neighborhood for 3 weeks isn't more important than a rebellion 6 connecting flights away. That is the point I was trying to make.

Durafei: To be honest, I don't know all the hard evidence concerning the Russian situation. From what I do know, the Russian Government is being extremely prejudice to a nation which coincidently has the economic means ( loads of oil) to be antagonized. In which case comparing the situation to US/Afghan isn't really a strong link. I really don't know enough to debate this, I'd actually like to know more if you're willing to share. Something about the situation screams greed on the part of the Russian Gov't.

...on part of every Gov't. Thats what its all about..:-\ I guess that explains Guvernment's business ethics, and the name truly suits the club :p

And Halo20, you're right about comparing the Sniper situation to the situation in Russia. If its close to home, then people care...if its on the other side of the world, then " it, how does it affect me?" comes into play...

I believe Durafei's original statment incorporated both of those aspects. The people did not recognize the importance beause they were unaware of the events that were occuring in Russia as a result of a lack of broadcasting AND the dangerous (sniper) times at home.
halo20
Dr. Z are you really a doctor? Or are you really Durafei in disguise? Do you have something to say on your own behalf? I've clarified twice now what I was trying to say, maybe you can call Durafei and he can explain it to you? I don't know what to say anymore. :eyespop:

I don't think that there was a lack of broadcasting. I mean, if we all found out about it then they broadcasted it enough. And but the way I was only watching CNN because of the sniper case because at the time they were just about to catch them so I was pretty much glued to the set. I know that CNN reports mostly stuff that is important to the American's but if you ever read the bottom part of CNN, it actually mentions news from around the world and from different areas of the news like health, technology, etc. Now, I'm not saying that CNN is the best station ever and we should all watch it religiously but don't say that they didn't report the situation in Russia because they did and as a matter of fact if you watch it now it will be very much discussed.

Durafei
OK.. I think we all have different views on what news station should be about.

- News station is not a movie. It must not necessarily be interesting. It must be informative.
- News station must educate people about what's happening around the world and in their own neighbourhood.

Now, terrorism is extremely widespread around the world right now. American public should be educated about this. However it is my opinion, that for some reasons, CNN wants to brainwash Americans that only Americans are wanted by terrorists. Hence not enough coverage of Russian situation and NOT ONCE, NOT ONCE did CNN call those chechen gunmen terrorists. Open up any Russian newspaper or any european newspaper for that matter, everybody calls them terrorists. What does CNN call them - gunmen. WTF ?

I noticed, that not for the first time CNN takes a story, and blows a sensation out of it. I remember how they had a 24/7 story about a kidnapped girl. I know it's a tragedy, but let's not make a national tragedy out of it, especially when there are hundreds of other kids that get kidnapped.

I got a feeling that even the sniper story got blown out of proportions. I'm pretty sure at least 3-4 of his killings came because he felt he was popular.
Durafei
Here is a story that just came out today, possibly linking Chechen terrorists to Osama Bin Laden...
