Just heard about this on one of Joe Rogan's recent podcasts.
Has anyone heard of Twitch? http://www.twitch.tv/
This live streaming stuff is nuts. People are banking off of it. |

| A lot of the tech guys posts vids & streams on both Twitch & Youtube. They are making a killing indeed. I follow a few on Youtube and most of them have quit their 9-5 to make Youtube vids full time. |

I don't get it. What a waste of resources all around.
But you could say the same of professional sports, too.

Yea, I feel the same way.
I just can't believe people are earning a living doing this. A substantial one at that.
And then there are the whores who do webcam shows and earn six figures.
The things people will do for money. Humanity, smh. |

Well, to put more of a positive spin on this, the gaming speedrun community has been raising money to prevent cancer for the past few years through twitch.tv. I've been an avid watcher of the last two years.
The winter event is called Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) and the summer event is called Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ). It really is awesome to watch your favourite games get absolutely crushed by some of the best players in the world. And, to top things off, at the very same time, people from all over the world are donating money to a prevent cancer foundation. This past winter's event raised over 1 million US dollars in a week's time.
Here's the website: https://gamesdonequick.com/
If you search youtube for 'AGDQ 2015' you'll find a plethora of videos uploaded. I can recommend some of the better runs to watch, as some of them can tend to be quite boring. For this years AGDQ (2015), I recommend watching the 'I wanna be the boshy' speed run, the 'Tetris Grandmaster' speed run, 'Battleblock Theater' speed run for some really hilarious commentary, and the 'Banjo Kazooie' speed run. Those are just off the top of my head. |

| the thing is you actually have to be good at the game you're streaming. nobody is paying top dollar to watch pkc get raped at DOTA for instance. |

We already know the most effective way to prevent cancer: don't smoke, exercise, and follow a healthy diet. But I guess it's more interesting throwing lots of money at a cure. |
