Didn't Robert Miles' 'Children' actually kill trance? :P

Eventually, but he didn't cast the first stone.

I can believe that.

He's also in denial:

I'd guess anybody would sell one's integrity if it came along with millions of euros a year.

I don't know about most infamous, but IMO "Airwave" can be easily described as example of some of the most stereotypical epic trance song. It didn't invent anything new, but it somehow merged all the trance cliches in a way that wasn't before:

- breakdowns longer than friggin' longcat, to the point that the whole thing is undanceable
- faking classical music
- sounding as HUGE and anthemic as possible

The formula was so easy to replicate that after its big success it was copied to no end, just trying to sound even bigger. Think of producers like Andy Blueman. The influence never faded away.
It's perfect track for those who claim trance to be religion or something. It still gets lots of praise actually.

I don't really hate this track. I agree that this wasn't even the best Benno production of 1999.

It was THE Innercity Theme 1999!
IMO it already had the classic status.

Based on the replies, I wonder if this thread should even exist.

...which begs me to ask the question, has anyone in this thread actually heard Airwave live? Granted, neither have I, but to think it sucks when you haven't even properly judged it on a proper sound system (particularly the massive breakdown) is pretty slanderous. I'll take the positive opinion of a 35+ year old who attended historic superclubs in the late 90's over some anonymous home listener any day of the week.
