Geoff, dod you buy a 303 clone too? So now you've got a Tribe, a RS700 and a Cyclone too?
Did you win on a scratchcard or something? :D

lol no, these are all cheap little boxes and I did get rid of the Virus C and Nord Lead to fund it anyway.
Sadly I will have to get rid of the RS as it's just too massive to use here :(
I'm going to replace it with an Electribe ESX1 to keep the workflow easy, then sync the 303 into one of them so I can jam along.
Next will be a couple of cheap pedals too. One distortion and probably a Zoom MS-70CDR as well.
Even with the pedals it'll be less than £750 all in. Bargain! :p
I tell you what though, these last gen Electribes will reach 303/909 status within a decade. They're so bloody good. Start hoarding them now!

You got rid of the C and an NL? That's a bold move unless you have Ti or another NL.
Wait till you get the ESX1 and the EMX going together - so much fun to be had there. Actually with that 303 clone and the EMX you can pull of that detriot techno / deep house sound off perfectly.
Is the RS7000 really too big? I remember it having a serious footprint lol. Thing is a beast.
I kinda agree about the tribes; they so underrated, and I think over time they'll get the kudos but there's so many of them about I doubt they'll ever reach the silly money that original 303's do.
If you're up for a bargain, have a look at the behringer V amps. I know it sounds bonkers to suggest but honestly, I was in a session with Tom Morello once and we just used that and it sounded ing amazing. Watch the first Iron Man movie if you want proof ;)

Yeah I had to get rid of them because of the space issues I have here right now. Once I move I'll be buying a Ti and some variety of Nord Lead, not sure which one yet.
I agree about the Behringer stuff though. Some of it sounds really awesome. There's a guy called acidoo on Youtube who posts videos of the TT303 being run through various budget distortion/OD pedals and there's a lot to choose from. Another winning budget pedal is the Zoom MS70-CDR, which is kinda a poor mans Eventide/Strymon pedal. Really nice shimmer algo.
Even after the move I want to keep a simple jamming setup with these boxes. Probably with the addition of an Analog4 and Octatrack too. The trick will be to get the cobweb of sync cables right :p

the 909, 303 etc are iconic for their sound. these don't have a sound in that way.

getting paid a lot less than the people pressing play. Now sure you wouldn't play this but you can do dance music live. It really isn't ing hard. The problem is that nobody knows how to play good enough any more. so either learn to play, or be a dj but for the love of god don't be a ing version of a dj that does everything a dj does except they are using stupid machines that all sound the ing same and play nobody wants to hear.
It is the idea that people give a that you can chose the right sequence on your groove box to make some 4 hour track that nobody cares or likes and you have the ego to think that is something anyone wants. Nobody does. They might pretend because they are part of a scene that nurtures this bull.
so dj, or produce. But don't produce live. That is called a master class. Not a performance.

you really aren't going to be able to tell if you are actually going to be an idiot and use these live. Nobody is going to be able to tell an mp3 sample from the machine given the amount of distortion coming from the speaker. Unless you are running one of those systems by those idiots that don't high pass their systems and just end up triggering the limiter or the safety buzz kill feature.

Lol, you've truly joined the darkside now. This actually made me dust off my es-1 and I found a bunch of half made track that were actually ing great and I have no idea why I didn't finish or progress with them.
I've now formatted the Tribe, and installed 808,909,,CR-78,LM-1,DMX Samples. Going to noodle this weekend and see what happens.
I would strongly advise joining the Electribe user group as there's tons of useful files and programs to support the tribes. Some of the stuff is amazing, like midi maps and translators so you can play the tribe like a piano.
They have tons of useful stuff that users have made for the X range (ESX, EMX etc - nothing really for my old tank).
You're lucking in that the X range does midi dump to SD then you can just import it. I have to actually record the midi in to the sequencer, but the cool thing is that all daws have a function where you can split a multi note midi by pitch and given that each sample is a different pitch, you can then assign samples in your daw just using the midi if you want.
@richie - I kinda agree but geoff and I are banging on about production and using them instead of DAWS or linear sequencers, not wanting to jesus pose in clubs.
