That's a pretty decent beard actually. If you want to avoid nicks and face rape, try using a safety razor. Once you get the hang of it, and find blades you like, you will never use a regular razor again.
My husband has been into safety razors for quite some time now, and pampers himself with high end shaving products and whatnot, and he says he gets such a closer, cleaner shave. He did a lot of research about the best way to prepare the skin and hair, the best blades, etc. It's definitely a hobby as much as a grooming thing.
He buys most of his products from Taylor of Old Bond Street

I use a safety razor. You can limit those types of cuts by hot water or leaving on hand made lather until hair is softened and shaving slowly with the grain all of which is difficult when in a rush. It's not the blade that cuts you it's rigid follicles snapping back after being cut.

Yes exactly. Not that you would ever rush that kind of shave, but with practice you can definitely get good at it and cut down the amount of time it takes. Like I said, my husband (jesus saying that over and over makes me feel in old) actually enjoys the ritual - it's kind of his treat to himself. Women have all kinds of grooming and cosmetic practices to make ourselves feel good, you guys have shaving.

My problem area is the Adam's apple. Shaving it is like trying to run a lawn mower over an anthill.

lol I actually have a recent pic (saturday night) to contribute to this!
this is two weeks in without shaving for me, p bad:
If I had a biiiiit more connecting the stache area to the dumb chin-strap thing I'd be way more into it. At this point I usually get to about 2 weeks and shave out of embarrassment. Shaved the day after this was taken, heh.
Maybe some dayyyyyyyy. I feel like it's very slowly creeping up my face as I get older.

Seriously, change the thread title to "Post pictars of your beard!"

I could grow facial hair pretty quickly but I also have sensitive skin. As soon as it settles in everything in and around it chafes. That said, I might do a goatee in the near future. Itching around the chin isn't as bad as the rest of the face.

I haven't had the pleasure of growing mine out for a while. I routinely have to wear a mask while working, and that requires me to be clean shaven. Too bad. I had a pretty wicked one going before the summer.
And +1 on the lathering. I haven't bought a safety razor yet. Despite the glowing reviews people have on them, I've also read some cautionary reviews as well. But the truth is that I haven't made the time in my daily life to practice with it. I guess I can think of it as sort of a pampering myself type of thing, but if I'm only able to practice it 2 days out of 7, it will take me some time to get the strokes down pat for me to warrant using it every day. Also, I've been lazy as hell last couple of months and still haven't gotten around to seeing if my grandmother still has my grandfather's lying around, so I don't have to spend 40 dollars on a new frame.
However, I do use an actual shaving soap + badger hair brush (Taylor of Old Bond Eton Street Soap is my go-to atm) instead of the garbage they push into those pressurized cans. I have never looked back!
