| Damn, another seven days gone. What say, you, TAs? Who is braving the cos play fanboys for some Force Awakens this weekend? Turned 39 yesterday...that's half a life. I shall drink to that this weekend, but not so much I hate myself the next day. |

Happy birthday yo!
Been really sick all week and finally feeling good today, woo!
Received confirmation yesterday that I passed my clinical rotation for my critical care certification, and am officially 100% DONE.
Going out with friends tonight before one of them takes off out West for the rest of the winter, and have my big family Christmas party tomorrow at the in-laws'.
Have a couple more Christmas gifts to get, but otherwise I'm all set to relax and unwind for the holidays!
I do have to work Christmas eve, Christmas, and Boxing day, but I volunteered to work them so I could have NYE plus a week off instead. Also two of the shifts are time and half. Plus weekend and night premiums. So yeah. :p |

Happy Birthday!!
Serious Request starts tonight at 8PM in the city Heerlen were I work and went to engineering college. First time here in Limburg since they started in 2004.
Went to have a look yesterday with my U.S. colleague who was visiting us. Next week I'll go again with my wife and kids to see what's going on.
Serious Request is a family of annual multi-day, multimedia fundraising events for International Red Cross initiatives, typically hosted by radio stations in the week before Christmas. The project was begun in 2004 by Dutch public pop music radio station 3FM. Serious Request projects have since been adopted in Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Kenya, South Korea, Austria, Latvia and Portugal. During the Dutch 3FM Serious Request, three popular radio DJs are locked up for six days in a small temporary radio studio (the "Glass House"), placed in a main square in a different city each year. Living on a juice-only fast, the DJs make an interactive, themed broadcast around the clock, while regular programming on the station is suspended. Instead 3FM and its website are completely dedicated to the event, which is also transmitted as a continuous audio and video live-stream. Additionally there is television coverage, integration with social media, and a dedicated mobile app. Funds are raised in a few different ways. While the DJs are in residence, they play songs requested by listeners and visitors, in return for their donations. Celebrities and artists also donate personal possessions or performances, which are auctioned off. Straightforward donations are made into the project's bank-account, and by physical visitors depositing cash and cheques into the house's letterbox. Additionally, members of the public run a variety of supporting initiatives, and in some cities more glass houses are popping up. All totalled the Dutch editions have raised €76.8 million. In the Netherlands the Serious Request broadcasts and the Glass House have become a national December tradition, that reaches most of the national population.

You can put various meats in it, pork being one of them of course.
I'm using beef, pork tenderloin and Polish sausage.
It's delicious when it's done right; everyone uses a different set of secondary ingredients that distinguishes one person's bigos from another.
I hope mine comes out somewhat edible. No test runs here. |

ugh, one of the few things I miss about the UK; socialist work hours. Most people here just get Xmas day and New Year's day off. I give my staff more but it's crazy to think back to my jobs in the UK and we'd break from at least the 23rd (if not sooner depending on how the weekends fall) and then not coming in to work until the 3rd or 4th of Jan :( |
