Well then for next year I'll do the vip. I booked atheneum as soon as it was available last year, after being at the river walk. It was cheap and decent rooms but they didn't reserve our room. Got delayed at the border for like 2h and we were the very last people to get a room.
What's the discount on westin ? And do you book it a year in advance and you show them you got vip or how does it work ? I read that's where a lot of the DJs stay |

Yeah, it's Paxahau's official hotel for the festival. You're always bumping into DJs in the elevator. If you're a star-struck raver, it's pretty cool. Not gonna lie, it's kinda cool to be in the elevator with Tale Of Us and tell them you really enjoyed their set and seeing them later at the afterparty.
Discount is not as awesome as it was when I first started staying at the Westin. Used to be $180, but now it's $230 I think? Still cheaper than the $400 they usually charge that weekend.
Book in advance as soon as early birds are on sale since they have reserved their blocks. And you can transfer the room to other VIP ticket holders, and cancel up to 24 hours prior. I do however know many people grab a few rooms and were able to transfer the room (with discount) to others via Westin directly.
They use a travel agent, I've been dealing with her for years, so she pretty much reaches out to me each year asking what I want to do. Give her the credit card information and SPG rewards number, she sets it up with her group discount code. Wifi is included with the group discount as well. And I have no idea how, but I've managed to have free valet parking for the entire weekend for the past 4 years. Could be group discount, SPG member or something. But I know others who used the same deal and were charged for parking, so who knows.
This year they branched out and offered more selections, 4 hotels in total I think. |

Pretty neat, not having to book a full year in advance.
Last year there was not much of anything in the area. Hoping atheneum has got some stores around. Had this one crappy deep dish pizza that lasted three days and this sub sandwich that gave me diarrhea and caused me to puke the next morning
Back to the music talk. It's looking like I'll be at the Detroit stage mainly |

I'm usually bouncing back and forth from Main Bowl, Beatport, and cutting through the underground stage back and forth. I do want to spend some more time at the Made In Detroit stage, just never do.
I'm guessing RZA will be the Electric Forest stage, might have to brave through that. Not my cuppa tea, but I do admire and enjoy the crowd's enthusiasm. Kinda jealous TBH. |

| i stopped listening to hip hop a while ago but i still like the older dudes... wu tangggggg. but i don't go to movement for rza. last year i wanted to explore more, but the underground stage just had pretty much who ever i wanted to see. I'm a fan of pretty much everyone from detroit and this year its looking like the underground stage will be a drumcode special i will get to see some more diversity. i got my game plan set ! |

I'm looking for a VIP ticket at a lower price. $300 is pretty steep. If anyone is getting rid of theirs,or knows someone that is,keep me in mind please.
And on a side note....
Earplugs are a must this year. Any suggestions? |

Really looking forward to this year's edition. Will be my fourth visit since 2011.
Have to say, I don't understand the criticism on the Facebook page. Lots of people are upset that there's "not enough techno." I think they have the perfect amount. There's plenty of homegrown Detroit techno artists, and they went and booked the usual big-name suspects, as well as underground European DJs and up-and-coming American artists. Plus, many of the DJs booked this year are quite diverse in their musical programming (Servito, Sonja Moonear, even acts like Tale of Us). Meaning they can spin house to techno and everything in between. And I haven't even mentioned the Trip crew (Kraviz, Bjarki). DJs have a tendency to play a little harder in Detroit, so I think the techno situation is just fine. Plus -- they have Moritz von Oswald and Juan Atkins playing a live set -- it does NOT get any more techno than that!
Besides if you really want more, there are plenty of hardcore afterparties -- Tresor, Interface, the local Detroit one, etc.
My only hope is that I'm not forced to make a decision along the lines of MvO/Atkins vs Kraviz or Servito/Plasalaiko vs Digweed or something like that. Of course it's going to happen but dammit I wanna see them all! |
