I mean, I'm in a developing country and the last time I touched a Real bill must've been in late July or something... to give it to a beggar :toothless What do you use actual paper money for? Don't you make most payments with debit cards?

I always have cash on me. Cash is king!

Indeed! My dealer refuses to accept electronic payments.

Every week about twice a week I take out most of the money from my checking to pay my dealer, and I feel so cool if I get lucky and end up with extra cash like two or three bucks.

Oh, yeah, Maggie Q! I completely forgot about Nikita :p

Is it that popular? I had no idea. People on Facebook won't shut up about Game of Thrones, and I don't think I saw a single person mention Designated Survivor there, so I thought it was one of those series only people in waiting rooms watch :D

I guess it's because we're in the latter half of the first season, and the creators were still getting the hang of it or something :)

Not sure we'll make that far though - 24 episodes per season is a tad bit too much for us. We usually just watch 3 episodes per week!

yeah, it broke the record for it's premier and it's consistantly been in the top 10 viewing figures. It's more mainstream appeal than anything critical but they seem to have nailed the secret sauce for popularity.

As for 24, the episodes are on 30mins long once you take out the commercials. Don't ever watch a BBC show, you'll never make it past the first episode in one sitting :p

I somehow missed this. 24 was . Really , and predictable, and Kiefer Sutherland is a actor.

It was predicatable in places, and while Kiefer certainly isn't the greatest thespo in the world, he did enough to pull off the man under pressure thing, and it was more about watching the thing unfold, as you knew it would. But it knew exactly what it was - cheesey espionage yarns - and wasn't trying to pretend to be something else. Just action/trhiller entertainment.

I can't stand game of thrones. One of the test shows I've ever watched and they just thrown in soft/fake porn and kill several characters just to keep the great unwashed interested. The acting (bar a fwe people), not to mention constumes/hair/makeup are laughably bad. At first I thought it was a monty python-esque send up. The only person that had some gravitas on screen was Beaney, but they killed him in the first episode just to pull a "scream" on you.

Even people I know who like it can't tell me what's going on or what the actual plot is. e.

Still watching Irma coverage on The Weather Channel. They cut to an advertisement, and the product was something called "The Hurricane Spin Brush". Soooo inappropriate/insensitive! :o

Normally I stay away from cash because credit cards make my life easier. I don't have a problem controlling my spending using plastic. For this vacation we got cash prior to leaving to avoid paying international convenience fees and poor exchange rates.

Last night bad luck caught up with us. We tried to go to a restaurant and unbeknownst us the neighborhood it was in the police were in the process of block off streets for a cycling race the next day. By the time we realized what was going on we had spent over an hour trying to extricate our selves from the maze of one way streets, barricades and angry traffic. There in nothing more de energizing than stressful driving.

Even today on our return we got with in a block of our apartment when a demonstration protest against colonialism prevented us from getting home. Ten minutes later and a couple of illegal turns we were able to circle around.

I enjoyed 24 in its heyday Keifer pulls off the over the top espionage thrill ride. After the torturing in Iraq came to light my appetite for the stuff that goes on in show soured. The show is a bit of post 911 time capsule.

Huh? Wait, he only tried to pay for it after he got his drink? And he only had one card? The pub didn't have another reader?
Couldn't he come again later? When confronted with a different opinion, I usually try to see from a different perspective, but this is so bizarre I can't even relate to it... I don't understand how this could've been a problem, at all.

If he didn't pay upfront before drinking, which is usual here, all he'd have to do is try to use another card or another reader (businesses hardly ever have just one reader). If that failed, the cashier can always get the details in the card, like when you buy something online (surely, then you'd have to use credit instead of debit, but what are the odds?)... Or you could leave something as a sign you'd come back later to pay (as in the following day or something).

I'm as dumbstruck as if you told me he bought another car because of a flat tyre :conf:

Haha, it's not the sitting time that matters in our case, but the number of episodes. I'm not sure we've watched anything by the BBC together, but the series are usually short, so that would actually be a plus.

Ironically though, I don't think we've ever watch from the BBC together. I wonder if "Yes, Minister" is available on Netflix here in Brazil, that was fun!

Yeah, I don't get it either. My dad is a fan. I don't get it.

Yeah, for some reason, I actually spend less with plastic because I don't have the sense of security I'd feel if I opened my wallet and thought "oh, I still have 10 reais, good" :p

Merrell sprint blast. I'm a big fan of Merrell shoes, and I've owned a few pairs of these. I finally managed to track down another pair in my size, since my current pair are developing holes in the soles... which I only found out yesterday when I was hosing off the deck :o

I've actually been thinking of getting a pair of boots as well. Kinda leaning towards Docs, but I dunno. I had a pair years ago when I lived in the UK and they were pretty good. I feel like I wouldn't get much use out of them here though.

Lira, you ruined Jack's story by over analyzing it.

Today was fantastic. I won't even try to describe it. Just know that it was good.

What part of that story made you think he paid after drinking, Marcus? The man ordered a pint and wanted it there and then. The card reader failed, it was a small bar without another reader. It was miles from where he lived or work. Why leave a deposit item for a £3 pint so far out of your way when there's an ATM round the corner? And are you so naive to think everyone has a wallet full of cards? I've got three bank accounts, but only one is linked to a card.

I'm trending toward buying a pair of Docs or Clarks, but I haven't seen the exact pair that I want just yet.

Those Merrells look pretty damn ugly. I can assure you that I won't be buying a pair of those - all black or not :o :tongue2
