My mother in law is in town this weekend. What a disaster.
She adopted a little black child back a few years ago. Let me tell you something, grandmother-aged women (she will technically be one in a few months) should not raise children. She raises the child with a laissez-faire attitude, allowing him to be horrifyingly rude to adults, passing his behavior off as "being silly".
The child tells us he wants a grilled cheese. I make him a classic, perfect grilled cheese. He argues with us saying that it's not the sandwich he wanted and he refuses to eat it. I get it, most children can be in moods and act like little piss-heads. But when they do that, the parent generally responds by lightly but firmly punishing the child. When my wife argued about his behavior to her mom, her excuse was "he is a 5 year old! Let him eat what he wants." Which absolutely isn't remotely the point. The child was rude and needs to be admonished. So us for wanting him to be remotely respectful? This has left a bad taste in my mouth and I can only handle so much time with these people before I just want them to go the home :(
