On an unrelated note, and not that this is in the grand scheme of things a major concern, but I don't know how the club scene rebounds from this any time soon. I can't imagine any promotion is gonna wanna book, say, John Digweed, fly him over here and pay his rate when he'll in all likelihood be playing to a half-empty dancefloor because people are still too afraid to go out, or at least cluster up. They can of course operate at dramatically reduced capacity and implement social distancing guidelines, but I don't think a smattering of people gyrating six feet apart makes for much of a vibe. Same with bars. You can drink much more affordably at home, but you go to a bar for the vibe, and what kind of vibe is an empty one?

Well, sure enough, the future of Berlin's nightclub scene is in serious doubt as it continues to fall into what might be an unrecoverable spiral:

Berlin was already on a downward trajectory in this regard. Just speak to anyone who has lived or visited there before 2010. Hell, the city has changed so much since I first visited. Commercial interests have taken over. This speeds that process up now. That said, it's still a special city. I hope it retains some of its essence and look forward to visiting again soon hopefully. |

Specific clubs will almost certainly go out of business but the idea that "nightlife" in general won't recover is clearly not true. Clubs are very transient things anyway. They close, they move, they re-open under different names. The trend for gentrification to push nightlife further away from city centres has been happening for years now. Covid will very likely accelerate it in boom-towns like Berlin, but new venues will open. Maybe not in the same place or under the same name, but they'll be back.

I always felt somewhat sad because so many clubs had to close over the years. Big festivals mainly caused this so I wonder if Covid could lead to a sort of second chance of certain clubs or will it all continue like before?

If anything, this will only strengthen the hand of outdoor events, which doesn't bode well for countries with climates like ours.

Probably you're right, unless the number of people would make a difference but chances for outdoor just look better at the moment.
