It is an acetate. In other words, after this song was produced, 3 acetate copies were pressed. Ferry probably had two copies, and i'm guessing the one i bought is the third. It comes complete with paperwork and everything.
The thing about acetates is that they can only be played about 50 times and then lose their sound quality, and eventually wear out. thats why i'm just gonna get it signed and then frame it. I spose its sort of a collectors item to have.
And I actually got a pretty good deal with it. The guy who listed it spelt the title of the track Tensi... so anyone searching for Tenshi wouldnt have found it.

Theyre pressed for promotional purposes only. I honestly dont know why they dont just press them onto normal vinyl material, maybe its cheaper to produce a limited quantity on acetate? :conf:
I think nowadays there are less acetates produced than what there were, mainly due to many promos these days being in the form of CD-R. I know Sample Gee spins his set entirely from acetate, so maybe someone can ask him. |
