Trance Dead in Australasia?

Well in auckland its basicly dead apart from the snipets of commercial on 91.0
Whats it like over in aussie? More importantly, whats it like in the Gold Coast? |

well what exactly do u mean?
if u go to any trance event or any big rave its always full, like gatecrasher or two tribes. trance is certainly not dead, it just doesn't have the same mainstream exposure as other forms of music. if that is good or bad is another discussion point ;) |

Not much trance in the Gold Coast, most of it is all commercial rubbish.
The only decent club i was able to find there was "the mansion" which is hidden away from all the other clubs, althoguh its more hard trance really. |

| Well here in Adelaide electronic music is thribing, buts ints mainly house. Trance is not very popular at all. |

Sydney is much the same, though we seem to be the only city with a good regular trance night (cheers Morro! :D)
We're mostly dominated by progressive house, breaks and funk at the moment .. don't worry these things come and go around :) |

Where does Voodoo, Plastic (if that's still happening somewhere), Daydreams, Progress and whatever happens at Icebox nowadays fit into this? Seeing as they probably own the lions share of the weekend nightlife in Sydney?
More accuratly there's not much "uplifting" trance (except Altitude). Hard Trance/House is very popular here. ed if I know what they play at raves now, but things like Utopia still seem to draw a crowd. |

Trance is pretty much dead in melbourne, apart from people like Steve Strangis and Dave Begic keeping it alive, and the internationals that visit.
But most of Melbourne is flooded by Hard trance and NRG... its horrible. :( |

Point taken TBA .. nights like Sublime are still going and still play mostly hard trance/hard house. Plastic, who knows if that's going to happen anymore (do they have another venue yet?). Progress .. hmm not sure how long that will be around, Icebox seem to change their music policy more often than they change the dunny paper :D
Have a look through 3Dworld and you'll see what I mean - 75% of the ads are for prog house/breaks/funk/rnb events... |

Perth doesn't have a thriving electronic scene, its full of the same people week in week out, plus the fact that Perth's obsessed with hardcore & drum n bass. When it comes to trance, its not a very good word to say within the electronic scene here (mainly coz the people who run the scene hate it). However, when the big boys come, suddenly everyone comes out of their crack to see them. I don't know whether its to actually see the international dj, or the lure of a very mainstream yet 'underground' event, mostly Delirium events. The big events tend to have backing from Gatecrasher, MiNiStRy etc. The amount of dumb ass chicks that I pass in the street talking about 'MiNiStRy' leads me to think the lure of a so-called rave is the main attraction, not the Internation trance dj.
at the more 'underground' events around Perth (the real raves), a lot of psy-trance gets played. this surprises me considering the hatred reserved for trance and the fact they're pretty similar.
but yeah, wait for the big boys, its a sad reality, but I guess it keeps the scene fresh, and you won't have the staleness of regular events like they do in the UK |
