Progressive (from what I gather from listening to lots of it), is simply a genre of electronic dance music (most of the time containing a 4X4 beat) that does not follow a particular formula and has gradual changes in melodic structure. The changes of the tune and builds in energy are much more subtle than those of trance or house.
Another noticeable attribute of most progressive that seperates the genre from trance is that is that progressive music usually is not very anthemic in nature. It's melodies are somewhat quiet and hidden and, once again, more subtle. Also, progressive tends to have chunkier, heavier bass lines than trance.
Hard-core trance fans who do not respect progressive would tell you progressive is a boring form of trance.
Hard-core progressive fans who do not respect trance would tell you that progressive is an evolved, more sophisticated form of trance.
Neither of those beliefs are accurate.

intrersting. i think there is really good progressive music coming out, but i wouldnt play a set full of it... its not that good. i would rather a beggining of some more mellow gripping prog and then go into harder or melodic style trance... im really liking what john "00" Flemming is doing. That Euphoria mix rox-
by the way does anyone have the tracklist for that white label euphoria mix? |
