Global Underground Gone Under?

There are some major rumours going around msg boards that our beloved GU series has gone (pardon my french) ' up'. Apparently the boxed boys bit off more than they can chew and are now pulling out of everything they were gonna release. IE: Nick Warren Iceland and yes... Deep Dish Toronto. Yep that's right, there is speculation that both comps will probably NOT be released.
This is the worst news I've heard all day. I really hope it's just a rumour, however with all the recent labels shutting down it's more than probable, but rather expected now.
RIP GLOBAL UNDERGROUND???
If so run out and get any GU you don't have. In particular, Oakenfold New York, Sasha Ibiza, Deep Dish Moscow blah blah blah. Please say it aint so Joe! |

Seriously though, I think dance music industry in general is not doing great at all for some reason. Probably because DJs started charging insane amounts... Or it has to do with the fact that older clubbers grew up and not hitting the clubs anymore, and yonger generation prefers some other types of music(ie. hip-hop etc..)
First RIP Cream, then Gatecrasher goes monthly, then RIP Ministry magazine, now RIP GU, what's next? |

YOU JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS PPL!
ok...here is the official word. The company is restructuring due to the current financial climate in the world today.
http://pub129.ezboard.com/fglobalun...icID=8497.topic
The directors of Global Underground have voluntarily appointed administrators to restructure the company and help manage it through the current difficult financial climate that a lot of the industry is suffering. This is to dispel recent message board gossip on the subject.
As I hear gu024 will be released next month (feb 8th/2003) and gu025 is to be released on April 8th/2003. Rumors have it that gu026 was going to be done next month Sasha - Mexico City but I dunno about that. Sander K's Nubreed 24/7 will be released in march. |

Bought or dowloaded? Something tells me the later. Which is why Durafei the industry is in a slump. Apparently GU (like the many other labels currently gone under) are blaming this on the spreading of free music via the computer. The downloading of MP3's is really turning into a huge downward spiral and looks like it might come back to bite us all in the ass.
I realize full well that tranceaddict.com has rules in effect by which you can't download albums via the main page but there is a sharing of singles which would otherwise have been bought on vinyl? In a way are we responsible for the demise of our own industry (if it comes to that).

It's not just mp3's to blame. South America is in recession, so is most of Asia and most other countries are in economic slumps. That's another reason and also the guys who run it are really just promoters not really business ppl. Lots of other businesses in other areas are restructuring things and it's never a bad thing. Also the music industry rode a economic boom of the late 90's and they did well and now things are back to more normal.
I bought gu013 today....so damn amazing...cd 2 especially
I own the following (full copies...not mp3's or cd-r's)
Nubreed 4 (signed by Sander Kleinenberg when he was in town in august)
Gu Lights 1
GU 011
Gu 013
GU 014
GU 015
GU 023 |
