Aite, someone give me the straight goods... none of this "it depends" crap ;)
I'm about to get a PC upgrade, but I need to know which chip I should invest in... cost is not an issue :D |

Do you want to play Quake 3 really really fast?
Buy a P4.
do you want to have an FPU that is fast without optimized programs?
Buy an AXP.
If money is not an issue, buy both and decide yourself.
If money is an issue, get AMD, better bang/ buck. |

| i would go with the AMD, i just got a new computer with the athlon XP, and i have nothing to complain about. in all the computer magazines that i have seen, the AMD beats the P4. I might be a little bais. Do some research on your own. good luck |

i have an AMD chip and from what I have experienced and from what I commonly hear to be true AMD chips are pretty good and much cheaper to Intel chips which are somewhat more expensive but also more stable
so you say cost is not an issue, then i would for sure go with intel chip, i got an amd because i wanted to save money, but i would have payed about 1.5x the price to get an intel if i had the money |

| I have a P4, but only because i didn't want to wait 3 weeks for the AMD chip to come in. I havn't had any problems with it. But my video card is ass, so i still can't play a lot of new games without having the details droped a bit. |

i'm biased as i own AMD stock. but had no problem with my duron 900 chip, which i've had for a loooong time now;)
go AMD;) support the company and my not so good stock standing:toothless

| Ive only ever used amd chips right from the days of the 486, i sware by them. If u wanna play games then go for a amd there much quicker than the intel chips (exept xion) and cheaper. Best thing to do if u cant decide is buy a computer magazine and do a little reading. |

| if money is tite get amd, as said before they offer better value for money, but imo intell are better in performance alone and more stable, and intell are still the choice of the main servers so if they are good enough for servers that require 100% reliability they are good enough for me |

I agree.
Go buy an AMD, they can use some support, because the company isn't doing so well lately. Imagine AMD going bankrupt, Intel would have a monopoly and cpu's would cost a lot more :nervous:
All my pc's are AMD's (K6 200Mhz; Athlon 750Mhz; Athlon 1600+) and I never had any problems with them. My next pc will be an AMD for sure :D |

| AMD is just as fast (even faster) than a P4, at half the price. |

| AMD All the way. First of all is cheaper, runs cooler is better for gaming and is faster than pentium 4. Yeah you can say that numbers are higher on p4's than in AMD's. Example: P4 2.66 vs xp 2600 which is about 2.2 ghz. They benchmark test both of them and AMD runs faster, more efficient than p4's. I am not sayin that p4's are bad but the facts and test show it that AMD is far more better in technology and all. This proves that numbers are not everything. If you want to overclock you computer, amd is better for any kind of cooling (Airflow, Water, Hydrogen, liquid oxygen). AMD=TRUE POWER AND PERFORMANCE |
