No, it means the artist didn't even try to make a tune HE would like - his first thought was "what would everyone else like?".
Of course... but that wasn't the point...
Some people are trend-setters and some are trend-followers.
Trend-setters define the sound. Cheese makers just follow it. |
hrmm last time i checked a cheese maker made cheese from aging milk...
How can you tell whats in a producers mind.. im sure sometimes they slack off on tracks.. for sure.. even the big producers do that.. but to start labelling their music as crap. Some of the junkie XL productions ive heard have no direction.. do i say that they are crap/cheese.. no.. because i have respect for the producers.. if you can do better then talk.. if not.. keep your cheese in the fridge.. dont stink up the forums.

I never said anything about crap. I said cheese. Cheese is not automatically crap.

Er... wtf are you talking about?
Some people DO produce cheese - it's a fact.
I didn't say anything about my musical preferences OR yours.
If you want to argue, pick someone who actually disagrees with you... otherwise keep your mouth shut.

yeah alright ill keep my mouth shut.. its obviously a useless argument of personal opinion.. a basis would be nice tho :P
and yes you are disagreeing with me.. i say that cheese automatically means crap.. your rhetoric is very underminding.. im sure a club trance producer wouldnt call his stuff "cheese" obviously it wouldnt sell in that case
and i think when it comes to the bottom line it does have to do with musical preference.. think about it.. if you liked club trance i doubt you would call it cheese, there are much better more descriptive words for describing the music and with my reference to junkie xl .. i simply wanted to give you an example of a different prespective.. in no way am i imposing an opinion on the sub genre of trance you like..
well.. this again is just my personal opinion i hate to see trance being mocked.. its all the same genre.. :P just sub genres |

| I don't think such a word can describe music... It's like anyone, from since they can speak to b4 they're dead, know the word could just simply speak it... What else...:o |

So what are you arguing about then?
To be quite honest I have no idea what your point is...

I agree with the personal preference point of view.
Stuff I find cheesy (normally its shyte vocals, or an annoying main riff that would do it):
Tomcraft - Loneliness
Jurgen Vries - The Theme & Opera Song
Flip 'n Fill - Anything
Kelly L - As above
PPK - Ressurection
Minimalistix - Close Cover
Now whereas I consider these cheesy, I do rate them differently within that cheesy category, FF and KL obviously are the worst on the list, and the others only beat them coz of slightly better production quality or effort.
Cheesy that I like:
Barthezz - On the move
Mark 'Oh - Never Stop 2001 (Barthezz)
Milk Inc - In My Eyes
Hampenberg - Ducktoy
Now, cheesy they may be, but they've all got something that appeals to me, and by no means are masterpieces. People can like tracks that arent brilliantly made, and they noramlly like whatever chatches them.
Dont ask me why I like Ducktoy, I know it is a god awful track, but it has a playful silliness about it, good for a change of apce from the more 'serious' trance as my brother would call it. :D |

Cheesy track is a track that's made to please as many people as possible, |
What if Peter Luts, for example, actually LIKES his Lasgo stuff, what if Brirttney Spears honestly thinks her music is good and it was made solely for HER taste and liking? Would that mean that they're not cheese in your book?
You can't assume what was going through their mind making the track. I don't like calling stuff cheese. I call them commercial. Commercial, if you ask me, is anything that pleases (not made to please) a large proportion of it's possible viewers/listeners/clients etc.
Since trends do change with time, what is commercial today might be underground tommorow so the term is unconstant.

Only one man invented the wheel, are all of us bikers and car-drivers cheeseheads?
You can't make something exactly new everytime. Uplifting Trance is a trend. Does every Uplifting Trance track just follow a trend while being cheesey? What would keep the cheesyness away? Was the first Lasgo-styled tracks not cheesey because they were something new? |

Well, the use of a plastic duck in a song is somewhat original. For the rest, so-so :/ |

im arguing that calling a genre cheese is MOCKING the music
yes im sure ian van dahl loves his music.. he doesnt get those nice melodies out of no where? or wait maybe he lets em ferment to cheese haha

please.. tell me some characteristics that define a cheesy track?!
haha you have no basis my friend.. just a big ego which you use to be little a music style you dont like.. and yest its true and obvious from your quote above.
An artist never makes a track just to simply follow a trend.. well their may be some.. but not enough to call the genre cheese.. and who are you to decide what is cheese and whats not..
if your going to bash a style.. say why and be specific.. if you dont like it.. then dont talk about it cause calling it cheese is just going to offend people that think that "cheese" is good
and if you dont see my point.. ask me specific questions.. dont be all like.. "DUH YEAH? i dunno what your talking about" cause then i dont know what your talking about
:whip: |

| Cheese is just a word for the Trance Snobs of the world to call pop/club trance, the same stuff they used to listen to before they heard some "underground" stuff. |
