Reasons why ppl hate trance . . .food for thought. (pg. 3)

I'm just going to counter some points made in the original post. (These replys are directed to your non-trance loving friends.) :)

quote:
1. Trance songs are too long.

Not all trance songs are long, and when they're played live, they're generally shortened anyway. A lot of trance songs have different stages, so they're not the same all the way through, so being long doesn't nesesarily mean repetative.

2. Not really danceable . . .i can somewhat see this because most of the trance shows i go to, majority of the ppl just jump up and down with their hands up in the air.

I disagree with this the most. I find trance music to be the MOST danceable music there is. There are so many things to dance to in the music, the standard 4/4 beat, the various rhythms, and the numerous melodies. I like to try to get different parts of my body moving to different parts of the music... IE: My hands and fingers going to the melody, the my midbody, and legs going to the rhythm, my feet going to the beat, etc...

3. Too cheezy (too melodic)

This only pertains to some songs... There are songs in all types of music that sound cheesy.

quote:
4. Sounds like Nintendo music

Some songs may have sounds that are similar to 'nintendo' music. Both are electronic, and therefore use the same types of instruments (sythesizers, whatever.) All music can be said to sound like something else...

5. Candyravers

What does this have to do with Trance? It's a type of person. There are strange/dislikeable people that listen to all kinds of music. I'd prefer to be with a bunch of Candyravers than with a bunch of 'hard-core rockers' or 'raggamuffin' gangsta thugs'.. (I'd feel safer.)

quote:
6. Weird lyrics/scary vocals

Again, this only applies to some songs... Don't tell me trance is the only type of music with wierd/scary vocals... "KILL YOUR MOTHER, KILL YOUR FATHER!"... Err I find that scary... :)

quote:
7. No one knows the songs unless youre a tranceaddict.

Who cares? I couldn't name the songs of other peoples types of music.. I can't even tell the difference between most rock songs, or rap/r&b songs.. they all sound the same to me... That's because I don't listen to them...

So those are my responses to your friends statements... Feel free to use them yourself. :)

Another little thing or things...

Yes, lots of trance has long pauses (without the beat). If you are dancing really hard, then you apreciate this slow-down. It helps when you dance non-stop for 4-5 hours like I do...

And you can still dance without the beat... It's not like it's completely silent (rarely anyway), so theres still music to keep swaying too...

As for people just jumping up and down to the music... I personnally hate when people do this... I don't think it's dancing... But it happens when people get really excited, and doesn't mean that the music can't be danced to.
torontotrance
everyone has an opinion about everything. Ignore what others think and play trance loud.
JohnSmith
haha TTA, for once i agree with you!

I'm gonna go home and pound it.

Personally I think people spend too much time on arguments about music as well as others things. With music, every individual has a different taste, even trancers. So play what you like....btw..don't play it very loud after 11pm....rofl...cops may come knocking at yer door but then again....to each his or her own.

another reason to hate trance, is this argument i heard somewhere - can't be played live, like rock / etc. i laugh.
torontotrance
Then again...you could say any music type has emotion but it takes a true lover of the genre to appreciate it.

yeah, heres my dads reason: All it does is go THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP

he also said "techno peaked and then died after the Real McCoys 'Another Night'" :stongue: :stongue: :stongue:

That's so ridiculous that people don't think you can dance to it. I've come across people before that actually asked me "how do you dance to this?" It wasn't trance, but breaks which is what I play but still the same idea. My question is this...how the do you dance to slow ass rap and r&b..? I used to not listen to rap because it made me feel like I was living my life in slow motion.
AmbiguousBliss
The people who I know that complain about it usually say one of two things:

1) It's the same beat over and over again./It's too repetative.

or

2) You can't dance to it./How are you supposed to dance to that stuff?

I love the ignorant comments too, like: "Dance, trance, techno - it's all the same thing." :stongue:

lol, maybe you should play the background music / hook of any r&b / rap song and compare it to the break of a trance song, and then argue which is more repetitive.

Number 1 reason in America: "Where's the lyrics?"

Yes, it's true...Americans have a problem listening to music without lyrics.
