indeed, great stuff from those two!

aweseome gp in general, michael was so cautious and he still managed to get into trouble a few times.. it was clear from the start that kimi did not have the car to take away the championship though.. too bad montoya was out so early, he looked like he had a very good car underneath him.. alonso was on the pace as well.. plenty of action again, as has been the case throughout the whole chamionship.. i hope we'll get another one like that next year!

I heard during the race that there are plans to scrap friday pratice all together, have 2 half hour sessions of pratice on saturday morning, 2 45 min sessions of single lap qualifying both on a saturday afternoon instead of hte current setup, me thinks this is bad as how are the teams gonna set up the car if its a wet day on satuirday and sunny on sunday...

luckily it's just an idea for now, i'm not a fan of it either.. i like the current qualifying system, although i understand it is rather boring for the people on the track itself.

if the FIA feel that a new format is absolutely necessary, i think the best way to go is indeed two single lap sessions, but one with low fuel and one with heavy fuel. a combination of the two times should then decide the grid. would be interesting i think, as some cars are better to handle with low fuel and other cars better with heavy fuel!

Personally i still prefer the olden style of 12 laps in a hour, ultra light fuel loads, lower than normal downforce, ultra sticky tiers :D its just a shame the costs rose so much so the smaller teams couldnt compete with the bigger ones.

I wouldnt mind having a offical timed pratice on friday still, gives more for teh fans to watch as if this new idea is implimated, a 3 day formula 1 race turns into 2 days :(

unfortunately the FIA have approved the new qualifying format..

so now we have on

friday: a 2 hour practice session

saturday: 2 one-lap qualifying runs in a session that lasts 90min.
the order in which the drivers run for their first lap is determined by the results of the last grand prix, the order for the second run is decided by the times in the first run. that means we'll see the 2 minardi's do their 2 laps within 15min. and the ferraris do theirs within more than an hour, in which they can optimize the set-up of the car.

in other words, there's nothing in it for the smaller teams, except they can run a third car on friday.. but still.. the new format sucks! :(

we'll also have 18 grand prix. Canada has been put back on the calender, Austria disappears, Belgium is back and two new grand prix in Bahrain and China..
nate735
Thank god Canada is back. I go there every year for the GP. The new format does suck, I think the original way was the best, where they have all session to put their fastest lap.

And for all JV flamers:

Villeneuve deserves praise not scorn
According to his former team boss, Sir Frank [02/10/03 - 10:09]

Jacques Villeneuve

Jacques Villeneuve has received heavy praise from his former team boss, Sir Frank Williams. According to Sir Frank, the Canadian deserves people’s admiration and not scorn for his decision to join BAR in 1999.

Villeneuve has received a lot of flack regarding that decision as some feel he chose money over being competitive. However, Sir Frank believes JV’s determination to try and turn BAR into a race winning team shows strength of character, not greed.

"You can't fault his loyalty. He can't be blamed for what he did," Williams tells the October issue of Formula 1 Magazine. "The facts are that Jacques chose to move to a team and remain loyal to a team that, despite the fanfare, never quite got into the first group."

"What we have here is one of the basic tenets of Formula One: no matter how good he is, a driver is always coloured by his car. Put Michael in a Minardi and he might move it up the grid a few rows. But no more. Give Jacques a better car and I'm sure he'll do better."
