How many of you actually go out there and buy CDs?
When it comes to trance music, I gather that Djs are making money on their performances and not actual CD sale. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. I don't exactly know how the industry functions.
Nevertheless, the question is, is it worth support artist by buying their Cds. (Dance music people..dance...lets not go into Metallica or Sum 51 cds)
To be honest, I havn't bought a single album in...forever. All these file sharing programs and websites introduced me to the trance music. I have about dozen GU cds, 5 Tiesto albums, 3 Oakenfolds, and about 60 other compalations ranging from Trance Energy to Sensation to Cream. Can't say I'm proud, but there are websites where you just click a button and you can download the entire album for free, which costs about the price of a ticket to SEE the person live at a club.
oh well, enough of me
What are your thoughts?
for the record, I'm buying next Nick Warren's GU album. I guess its a good thing after all. (btw, I'm in Toronto and Trance music isn't exactly something you can easily came by. Preaty much like religion. 95% hate trance, the other 5% LOVE IT!!!! |

| well thing is...buying cds will help the scene alot more. i mean it will help the labels (so they wont get shut down) and they will help the producers :) (Maybe L-Vee wont be a cry baby and quit) |

| On the major labels artists get something like 6 cents for every cd sold, I know on independent, local labels, its more than that, anyone know how much it is for like gu etc? I mean, buying a cd may not even help the artist out that much. |

i first use the file sharing programs to download the cd's. if i like em, i go out to the store (mostly e-stores) and buy the real cd's. if i dont like the cds, i dont buy them.
i dont want to purchase something i dont like.. it would be a waste of money, something i do not have enough of..
what are they bashing about mp3 and file sharing? in my case, it helped them selling about 7 albums which i otherwise would not have purchased..... |

Personally I have a load of Trance CDs, simply cause I am addicted to buying them, ie like some of your are to buying vinyl. Sometimes I will buy 5 or 10 CD singles of ebay in one go, of rare singles. I pretty much have all the artist albums, like Ayla's,Tiesto's, BT, two Chicane ones (Worth every penny) etc... So for me its not a problem, just where to get the next £10 to buy next one. I guess its not too bad for me living in the UK so I can get most of these CD's easily.
:)
Also I only have 56K, half the time I just cant b bothered downloading the full album, takes too long, so it might be a different case if I had Cable. |

| Ive only got about 8 artist albums, but thats cos its so fupping hard to get them in Ireland (could only get In My Memory, ISOS 3 and Behind The Sun, even though Airdrawndagger is floating around). I do most of me trance shopping in foreign airports  |

| I wouldn't say I have an extremely vast collection of albums, but I do reach for my pocket and support the artists, which I love and admire. |

| i'm another of those dudes that hardly buys any cds.. it's almost impossible to find trance here in cd stores, when i see one i buy it (This means in the last two years or so, I've bought Trancemaster 3002 and pvd's Politics of Dancing - i dont even liked those two). Of course there is internet to purchase cds online, but i dont feel like asking my parents to use credit card on the internet - the answer is "dont you get enough music from the net" So.. it's not enough for an excuse, but you get the point. |
