What kinds of stereotypes/thoughts do you all have about feminism? One of the core philosophoes I've studied in the last 4 years has been ecofeminism, and while I obviously don't agree with all of it - I do think they make some interesting connections between negative environmental practices impacting women, children, and minorities disproportionately.

For a lot of my friends, feminism is like a dirty word that you giggle a little bit about after you say it (not unlike "penis" or "vagina," lol! :p), but now that I'm coming to understand that it's a lot more than just one ideal, I think it's kind of neat.

Inspiration for this thread: In my course on ecofeminism I have two of the biggest "PCU style" stereotypical "feminists," who constantly question our professors (a male) ability to teach the course, and basically contradict a lot of what they presume to advocate. I laugh at them frequently, but then realized it's not something anyone I know has much to say about - so I thought I'd see if could get internet people to talk about it. I'm probably expecting too much.

One of them is a self described sufferer of "Gender Dysmorphic Disorder" sufferer and outspoken lesbian activist on campus.

She's basically a walking soundbyte that's beginning to sound like a broken record.

Feminism, like many social justice movements, has a good core and some very silly fringes. The "science studies" crowd would be an example of the latter.
