Ambient Background Noises

I have written a few tracks but today I noticed they are all missing a sense of ambience. I hear incredible ambience in almost every trance track I listen to, from wierd sounds just randomly comming in to sweeps and strange noises. I don't think its possible to create any of these noises with Vanguard or any of the other VST's that I currently own, was just wondering where most people get these sounds. Thanks for the info.

For synthetic ambience, Atmosphere and Absynth are probably your best bets...only thing is they're not cheap.

Edit: Wow that's awesome, I managed to get 5 words in a row that start with "a." Haha guess that's just the nerd in me talking.

I used V-station and Superwave p8 to create some of these.

They're good for the simple fx, just play with the lfo.

Atmosphere is very nice, although expensive as mentioned. The CS-80v is also very cool at doing those kind of sounds. The demo is fully functioning expect for those SSSSHHHHH sounds every now and then but you can work around them if need be. Absynth is apparently good too, although not something I use.

what I would recommend doing is taking these vsts and create your effects with them, then render to wav.. this way u can cut down on your CPU usage because these sounds are really just ambient so u dont need 3 instances of vstation, for example, running just to make a swish sound.

If your gonna make swells, swishes etc, I usually take pro-53 and a bass preset, then I make 1/16th notes and have the volume and filter gradually move up.

Just some ideas to help you.

In fact you can create atmospheric noises and strange sounds with everything, it doesn't need to be a synth. Just tweak the hell out of it, put effects on it, tweak further, other effects. When I worked on some movies I had to do this all the time. Be original, that's all.

If you don't know about it yet, check out Spectral Relativity. Those guys made lot's of impulse responses for plugins like Voxengo Pristine space, Waves IR-1 etc (the convolution reverbs). Even on everyday sounds they can add a whole new dimension to even the most boring sounds. Listen to the demo samples on their site.

If you look at Atmosphere, it sounds good, but look behind it, it's nothing but "regular" sound sources (synths, samplers, etc...) tweaked and effected to death.
