Jumping Volume in Windows XP

My volume of mp3's ( and songs in sequencers ) goes up and down like a jumping kangaroo. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

I use the latest drivers for my soundcard and Windows XP is also up to date. This problem started a week ago ( no problems during the previous couple of months ). My virus scanner didn't pick up any virusses.

I think I'll format this PC and reinstall everything again.

Is your virus scanner up to date? Is it a decent one? You must have installed something or changed some setting to make that happen if it isn't a virus and you have the latest drivers. Or maybe the problem is with the latest drivers and you need to go back a version.

Or maybe you should take your hand off the volume control knob

Hmm, a thought...

Have you checked all your wires etc.? Maybe one of them is loose?

Do you have a connection to the internet all the time without a decent firewall? Via spyware/bots there are some things which pop up and/or mess with your master volume (or do other annoying things) Had this few weeks ago.

Fortunately there are free spyware killers to disable and avoid these things, if this is the case for you as well.

Hi guys,

Saw this post, and since I have a comparable problem I thought it would be better to ask the question here instead of opening a new topic.

So this is what's wrong:

When i'm using Reason, I (like most people) layer different kicks over each other, and percussion, so that a kick contains let's say 8 different samples. The problem is, when I playback the audio in Reason, the first kick is of a much higher volume then the rest. This also occurs when I remove a couple of kicks out of a row. I tried to make it more clearly below, where "B" is the high volume kick and "b" the normal ones:

Playback in sequencer:

B-b-b-b-b... and so on.

Same when there's a gap in a line of kicks:

b-b-b-b-.-.B-b-b-b

I checked every posible setting in Reason, every velocity bar etc etc. It just seems like my soundcard is causing this or something. It's a simple Creative SB Live card. Anyone able to help me? It's really pissing me off...

Thanks in advance!
