Fatboy - Disquietude (Full 192Kbps)

Hello everybody!

Once again it has been ages since I've posted here. Last year it was the military. After that I've moved to the UK and I don't have an internet connection in my apartment. That coupled with the fact that I make about two songs per year are the reasons for my scarce contribution here in the last couple of years.

Anyways, this is a song I finished off about a year ago I guess. I don't really know exactly which genre it's in, but I guess it's somewhere between trance and prog. It's very minimalistic compared to my other stuff. Since it's quite old I've gotten some time to think about the mixing of it and I'm still not quite happy with how the kick and bass interacts. Still, going back and making new mixes and being indecisive about them is one of the reasons I make so few songs, so one day I just decided to leave it and make something else. I am thinking of recording some vocals on this one later on. I have some cool ideas, but I need to get some decent lyrics down first Comments are very welcome Hope you enjoy it!

Hey long time no see here Fatboy. Pretty cool work on the track. Breakbeats are very cool. Bass is a bit too rawish for my taste. Eats up a bit of the other sounds too. Nice full and busy percussion. Sweeping pads and strings are good too, as well as the strings. Is that Darth Vader..?
I think there's some clipping in the main part.
Overall nice work! it's another style but still Fatboy sounding.

Thanks for the replies guys. I can definitely see your points about the bass. I should probably have used another patch alltogether.

I really like the beats and bass in this one. Those bell sounds kinda cheese it up too much for me though. Theres some lovely squeaks and fx through this track. Production is great too, excpt on that bass.

Two things on the bass stand out... too much of a release on it at some points. It starts sliding too much and looses its definition and punch. Its too growly. Too much FM or filtering on an LFO somewhere. I do like how it stands out and has a lot of high end action though.

Can I ask which VST you used for it?

You indeed have some cool ideas. I think your torn between doing something truly original and making something that is more mainstream. Atleast that is where that track seems to sit. Keep at it.

Personally I think some well chosen samples would do it more justice than vocals, but follow your creativity =)

the rithm is fantastic and it is the cream of the song...the synth works great with the bass ...but..i dont like your lead.nope, not my type at all...look for another instrument.
your tune should fit 100% into a movie theme..very energic and full of effects ... well done matey

Cheers for the comments!

Axolotyl - I see your points about the bass. The sliding quality it has is not because of the release (which is virtually at zero), but because of portamento and long notes. The "growl" of the sound is indeed caused by an lfo. I went for that effect intentionally, but I probably overdid it a bit. Btw, the sound was made on a Virus C.

tonkproject - I'm glad you liked the rythm. I spent quite a bit of time to get it right. And about the lead, I'm just a sucker for those kind of sounds, so that will definitely stay

TOR - I just tested the link, and it should be working. Maybe it was down for a while?

I'm definitely listening to this one once I get home...

If it's even half as good as Rebound was, I should expect pure sonic class

Hehe, I hope you enjoy it It's very very different from Rebound though. It's much less trancy. I do however have a few Rebound'ish tracks in the works

I enjoyed it thoroughly.

The best comparison I could make is Robert Miles' "Fantasya", sped up and without the pianos. It's the "sped up" bit that makes this track good

The bass is a tad thin, but so is that of the Miles track I mentioned.

Me likey!

hey fatboy!

long time no news about you! so i'm very excited about this track!

very cool sounds you've used! especially the bass sounds great...good sound and pattern...but you could decrease the amp of it a bit...imo it's too loud...
the belly melody is really nice...
nice strings in the break...they end to suddenly, imo...
cool! darth vader is inside!
mainlead is well done...sounds awesome!
you've done somme good work on the build up of the track aswell!

i really like what you've produced! keep up the good work!
