Michael Jackson - Billie's Jeans (iLLicit's Holing Up Your Pants Remake)

Hi all,

Slightly different from what is normally posted here, but maybe some people are interested!

I found the acapella of this yesterday and immediately I got inspired to do a remake. I am happy with the result and now I'm curious what the rest of the world thinks about it.
Made with FL Studio 4.5, some VSTi's, samples and the acapella off course.

Michael Jackson - Billie's Jeans (iLLicit's Holing Up Your Pants Remake)

Enjoy!

Hey there!

Wow, cool remix! Sounds really tight. As allways, the percussion is very hot and i love the fx sounds in this one! Dark sounding. In the empty part I thought for a short moment that the vocal (of the alien ) has too less backup.. it's a bit too empty for my feeling. But I think that's because I'm used to hear full sounds when I hear quality, and this is another style.

Awesome shit!

Hi Jay, thanx for the review.

I do think you are right about the vocal and it being a bit empty. I was wondering about that myself too. I'm thinking of putting a pad or strings in the break, just to give it more body. But I still have to figure out some nice chords for that.

ok, comment as i listen,
really funky and nice, the percussion and the effects are nice,
the vocals are ok placed, sometimes it fits, sometimes it feels slapped on
but the synth in the background playing the "beginning part" is nice, i like the incline from background to pure nastyness , and the rest is just plain mint, good job here

You had a good idea, the remix sounds cool, but the low frequency is not mixed properly, it's almost like there is not enough bass. And the kick is just too thin. Are you still going to work on it?

Thanx for all the great reactions! It's great to see people here are also interested in other things than trance.

About the low freq's, I really can't understand why people have trouble with it. I recently bought new monitors, the Alesis M1 Active MK2, so maybe it has to do with that.
But when I played the track on my hifi-system, the bass was booming! I think it has to do with the fact that I layered a kick with a high attack on a very deep 808 kick, which can not be heard on every system that well.
I guess I have to work on that then!

Amazing remix mate! Great (re)interpretation of the track. As said sometimes the vocals sound very nice and well placed, but sometimes it seems a little bit like just cut and paste.

Nevertheless a great quality and funky remix

[EDIT]There's a spelling mistake in your sig and thread title [/EDIT]

good remix, but i agree that it's a bit empy in some places

i for one love the kick, but i did feel the bassline could be a bit deeper..
percussion is great!
