Arrow Ian Cashman (Mod1) - 'Unsecured'

Hello there. its been bloody ages since ive posted any tracks on here. the reason being is because i havent written any since last june. ive been far too pre-occupied with getting my DJing off the ground, which has been a lot of fun, but after getting some wicked gigs sorted, i felt it was about time a perhaps wrote a new track to add to my CV.

I'm pretty chuffed with the ways its gone, so i thought id come find out what everyone thought of it and maybe get some constuctive feedback on it.

Ian Cashman 'Unsecured'

Ian Cashman 'unsecured mix 2' (this is the one to listen to)

Hi there

This isnt my cup of tea but ill comment on the things i didnt realy like:
First, its too repetive, needs more perc + phatten up the bass abit, and the synths sound abit too hard, but that could only be me.
Cheers .

Uplifting track. FX synth is ok, but a bit too raw I guess. I think most synths are a bit too rawish. Lead synth has a nice delay and echo tho, really like that sound. Percussion is ok, short and powerful. Melody is ok, but not very special. At break now, it all sounds .. yeh smooth, like hardware. Nice synth you bring in here.

Overall pretty good, some sounds are a bit too rawish, and the main part may be a bit too empty. Rest is really nice!

what does everyone listen to their music on? im not sure what you mean by raw. it sounded fine when i played it on a club system the other night as it does on my studio monitors.

it sounds a bit harsh on my pc speakers when i play back the mp3 version, but then most pc speaker systems are a not ideal for monitoring.

i was trying to get a kind of stripped back a la 'ronski speed' type sound to it, and it sounds ok mixed in with his tracks.

when you say 'raw' do you mean lack of fx or something?

The synths are an Access Virus C by the way.

he means it is very simple. The synths arent very complex. the track sounds quite empty. Maybe some pads would help this. Most of us have decent studio monitors to, we dont all just listen on our creative labs computer speakers :P

Also, no where near enough bass in the track i dont think, i personally dont like the kick, but thats down to taste. Its generally not powerful enough for me, sounds to empty and lacks any real progression. I would have to disagree about it being uplifting to. its kinda like 1998 anthem stylee trance

i have actually got 40hz high pass filters on the kick and bass cos on my monitors it sounded a bit 'boomy'

it sounded fine in the club basswise but i concur it does sound bass-lite when i play back the mp3...

i was feeling while making the track if i added more pads, it would clutter the tune.

the main inspiration for the track was Carlo Reesort 'O Class'

its got a similar build up, very stripped back drums and is very crisp sounding and minimal.

anyone familiar with this tune?

ive taken on the feedback.. and redone the levels on the track.

if you didnt like the actual tune, then theres not a lot i can do about it (without writing the whole thing again, which aint gonna happen).

anyway ive tried to 'cook' the synths a bit to make thenm a bit less 'raw'...lol

what ya reckon now then?

Ian Cashman 'unsecured mix 2'

I think its a very cool track. loving the last edit. why do you have to rewrite the whole melody??

dude, the melody is nice, but it seems like old-style trance as for me... i think it depends on atmosphere of the track... try to make it more vast... okay...

it needs work, only, i think it has potential...
