Arrow Subtle - Mercury Rising (Original Mix) full --> 192 Khz

Hi I posted this track for the Tranceaddict - Unite competition... I thought i`d post it here as well.. it only took me a couple of hours to complete this track... everything went smoothly I think.. some say this is my best work.. I personally think this track got some special atmosphere around it.. the drums are kind of simple.. but I think they do fit the vibe of the track..

this track is made using.. Cubase SX, Reason 2.5, Atmosphere, Superwave Performer, Albino 2 and Vanguard

Subtle - Mercury Rising (Original Mix)

I dont want any suggestions for this track.. as I am pleased with it as it is... but I would like to know what u actually think of the track.. and maybe how the mixing and mastering is..

okok in any event im not good with suggestions :P. here comes what i think

good track...
the intro is cool, i like the transition when the bassdrum comes in. those angel'ish pads that start around 0.40 are awesome. percusions, especialy the bassdrum sound satisfying but i dont like the bassline that much (could need some more drive imo). the melody works. though, im no big fan of the melody...

mastering sounds good to me. anyway the track could need some more depth i think.

dunno what to say else...

cheers, niklas

Buildup is a bit poor. The percs are a bit too loud for me. Bass is way too simple, I prefer rolling basses, with a lot of width. Arp and lead are a bit too simple. That high synth is an interesting one, not bad. Melody doesn't bring it anywhere I guess. Too dull. I actually did hear better from you.

I do like the clap, gives it energy, and the ambient pads. Try to use those in more tracks.

-Jay

Umm... sorry I don't like this track at all. The bassline is boring... it's just a thump with nothing else, the percs are way too loud and make it sound like there's nothing else to fill the sound void. The background melody that "dadooop dadoop" sound is very amateurish sounding. Although I do like the synth used with the melody that comes in right before 3:00.

+ ambient sounds are nice in beginning
+ pads are nice
+ subtle panning changes
+ original bassline (lacks a bit of bass tho, but nice sound)

- switch from ambient efx to pads are too quick
- kick lacks a bit power
- buildup is a bit too slow imo
- I'd prefer a build-up climax, with an addictional melody

With an additional line and a climax I would definately dig it.
Keep em coming

Good effort, but I have a couple key suggestions. Firstly, I'd make the melody more varied, and especially change the lead synth! There are tons of CDs out there filled with samples, so come up with a more compelling sound. Also, this song needs more fullness in the bass end. Maybe create a more rumbling style bass that alternates with a kick drum or something. The big thing is that the song just doesn't lead to a very powerful climax or anything, so you might want to help create variation and suspense with further drum programming. Sorry if I seem a bit down on it- remember - it's better than I could do, and you've always got to start somewhere!
