John Steenbergen - Circle Of Life

Hey all,

first time in half a year since i finished something woohoo (Y) Well, I think it's about 97% finished now.

The track was made under the influence of the lion king.
And the vocal sample had a shitty quility, so there's a dub too
Also I didn't do any additional mastering outside reason, because I'm lazy.

Circle of Life (Original)
Circle of Life (Dub Mix)

both files are 14,87 mb. 8.07mins and have a 256kbit bitrate.

feedback much appreciate!

John

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (Clear Sight's Unarmed At War Remix) (July 2004)
John Steenbergen - Teardrop (August 2004)

am slacking also, been 3 weeks since i made Furor? or 2..

i should retire .

Listening to the dub.

nice perc in the beginning!.
kick could use some improving not much, maybe more low.
Bass is nice man, same with the bassline.
those acids sweeps are minty.

Ok it takes aaaaaaages before some synth or riff gets introduced, i am guessing that was the job of the vocal to fill the intro.

hmm gets repetative now, il download the vocal.

Liking all those percussive sounds at the start. Maybe add some and create that jungle feel! Bass is sweet. Kick is nice and subtle, not really banging. Maybe add a little low end. That vocal is of low quality, shame.. Buildup takes a bit too long, you could add more layers to get some more movement. Ok break now. That lead synth is nice, but a bit too thin. Release is also a bit too long there. Try to put a chorus on it and detune it a tad or so. Now the melody is quite ok, it's peaceful and still not disney which is good. Hihats could perhaps use some other layer but i like them. The plucky bass is lovely, surely dig that.

Overall pretty decent tune tho I'd look at it just one more time Keep this up!

-Jay

I think this is one of your best tunes so far mate, good job.

Bassline and drums are a-ok! I'm not too sure about the lead sound... Sounds a tad weak to me - perhaps try a different sound for this kind of track?
My only 'real' complaint is that it takes a little too long for the track to get started.

Keep it up!
Wim

nice start dude, very very long build up tho! and personally, i hate the vocal hehe. at the break now. i dont like that saw synth, it sounds quite dead, the pitch bend is cool as fuck tho. the bass change is good but i think could be complimented by a nicer lead than that. the bell sounds are cool! oh ok i think this is the real break that i just got to. nice and mellow and ambient. the releases on the pads make them merge together in the break, which ruins it for me. it sounds quite messy in the break. well produced man, but look at some of the details mentioned

let's bump some of my own shit too

@all who replied: thanks guys! really appreciate it about the intro, i defo should lok into that again yes (i wont ave time the next few weeks, but i should do it), the reason it's so damn boring now is because it was too short at first and i kinad rushed it (basically made every 16 bars 32bars, or 32 64 i cant remember, but i made something longer)

@massive, 3 weeks is nothing

@jay, cheers man i'll try your suggestions on the lead. i have never been succeeded in creating a phat lead (yet?).

@wim, thanks

@mike: i knew someone would hate the vocal i just thought i'd add a nice oneliner into this tune in this world of hate but thanks for your tips! i'll look into it!

Hey John,

I really like this tune, but I'm not sure if I can explain why. I think it might be because it has such a good 'groove' to it. The bass is good, it carries the tune well. I like the melodies a lot too. As people have said, the intro is long, but I honestly think it doesn't detract from the tune any. Maybe you could have added more of those bongo drum things - they sounded good.
