Whats up Everyone. I was wondering how you guys construct your trance songs For Example

1. How do you start intros, soft melody or hard, and how do you do it. bring in the kicks first or whatever. Strings. Please Explain

2. What do u do in a mixdown?

3. What do u do on your Outro's?

4. What type of effects and On what instruments?

You get the point

Just want to know some tips and tricks on this.

In that case, I think it varies from song to song. I've started out with just about every element, pads, bassline, kick. Given that "most" EDM is built on a 4/4 structure, I usually throw in the other elements at multiples of 4 bars. I prefer minor keys as they feel a little more dramatic. Outro's, I usually let the song dictate to me when its over, but I know a lot of producers prefer the more DJ friendly Kicks in, Kicks out approach. About the only set rule I have for effects, I have this fetish for chorusing stringy instruments. But that's about all I got to say about that.

As a newbie producer I dunno how much I can help, but...

Depends on the tune. I think the intro should say a lot about what the rest of the song will sound will sound like. However, in either case if it is to be mixable then bear in mind then needs of a DJ.

Generally the same as an intro but in reverse. I usually knock out the elements of the track in an order that sounds good. Maybe using some of the signature elements to help it along the way...

Reverb/Delay on things you think need thickening up (percs, leads etc). Also don't forget to give your track some stereo width by panning certain elements. I don't know what else...

honestly i found that i can do alot better percussion work when im doing 16x4 step sequencer. ie. 16 measures at 4beats. i found that it makes doing percussions lines alot better becuase you can make 3 or 4 almost exact copys of your percussion but have changes here and there and each one. then i throw the hats on an fx send which is loaded with a chorus and flange and a slight delay. then i have my clap and crashes on an fx send that has reverb and a dely on them and slight distortion, then for my kicks ill run them to another fx send and have eqing and a bassboost on them and chompression. for synths i usually have a fx send that will have a hard delay and reverb and various other effects. now what i do is i automate the effects for for them to come in here and there and so on. then in the synths fx channels ill have various other effects ranging from chorus to vocooders. for intros sometimes ill use a vocooder over a synth and do some really intresting intros with it. for this i recomend orange vocodor. some usefull effects is gold compressor, psp vintage warmer, antrea tube, lexicon 24, 3d chorus, i also will load the vsti's effects into my effects board so i cna use the effects from that vsti ontop of other vstis and so on so forth. however my productions still sound like midi on meth but eh time will teach.

for mixdown and mastering i usually load a parametic eq that kills everything above the range of eharing and below the rang of hearing i belive the setting is anyhting below 20hz and anything above 20khz, ill also run gold compressor and psp vintage warmer and i use their preset for mastering and tweak them to apporiatness. for mixing i will work in the mixer and create a channel in the pl that is for the mixdown automation, and ill hit play on the track then hit record
and as the track plays ill tweak the levals here and there and bring them in and out for volume automation make the curves more flowing and round and not so quick and try to make sure you can hear each synth and making sure the synths that are layerd arent too loud to where they overpower each other. i also will load a eq on the master fx and eq the entire track. once thats all done sometimes ill export the project as a wav file load up traktor dj studio and run it through there and re-record it using the filters on there to add more depth to it raise the bass when needed lower it when needed. once this is done ill load the wav into wavelab and run through and make sure nothing peaks to high and i dont hit red and eq it some more.

I start my intros with percussive elements.. and I bring in the bass in about 1:00

I make sure all elements and sounds are right, then I mixdown the track and makes a "proto mix" I close all programs.. sit my ass down on the couch and I play the track.. and listen to what doesnt sound right... then I edit the mix once and mixdown after that.. (I usually only render the final track (no mastering and stuff)

Well there actually are no rules to this one. Some start with the bassline, some with a kick, some with just percs, other with pads...
There are so many different intros, you really need to practise and get handy at it yourself, the only tip i can give is to listen to other tracks and then use the same buildup in your tracks, en then try to modify that to what for you seems good.

For outro it's just the same. Be sure to make it not too short because DJs may want to mix in and out your track, take that into account!! (holds for intro as well) 4 counts pause in beginning or ending for example sucks for djs.

Fx on instruments: Well watch out you dont use to many reverb or delay, your mix will get muddy. Phasers/chorus on synths and fx will phatten things up. When you delay or reverb a synth, try to use the send channels. You can put some additional fx and eq on those.

Mixdown.. well I think you mean putting it all together and equalising? I actually don't render basslines or leads apart, just all at once, so im mixing while composing. i allways cut some high and low from every instument, i want to be in full control so you can make a crisp sound and you can distinct every instrument in the final mix when you listen to it. That usually should be the purpose when you mix it all.

Please bear with me if i'm mistaken at some points, i'm very new at this production ballgame.

Kick and snare usually sound better when they're dry, and if they sound flabby, tighten them with a bit of EQ and compression. Hi-hat, handclap and cymbal can use some nice reverb, just make sure they're on the same reverb settings (i.e. no "large hall" on cymbal and "small room" on handclap).

the "kick-in kick-out" approach you hear so often on 12-inch and club mixes will sound very boring on an album, so for album versions, soft intros and breakbeats are more palatable.
