Naming Threads

There is a little discussion going on here about the name of the thread the creator has given and it seems to bother people.

Thread naming is often bad on this forum and especially when you want to present something to the crowd for reviewing. A few things occur which start to annoy some members including myself:

* Bragging ("killer track inside", "listen to this monster", "best yet")
* Begging ("plz review", "comments appreciated", "need your opinion")
* No trackname ("I made a new track", "new track by me", ...)
* Unwanted other ("free download", "ok")

Let me go through this points more thoroughly.

* This is a promotion forum, true, but let me tell you that by telling us that you just finished "a monster track" is just bullock in most of the cases and that automatically makes you a liar and it's pretty arrogant. Be wise and don't tell us you have a killer track while it's total crap.

* PLEASE don't beg you want more reviews! You get what you deserve when you act normal on here, ok? I know it's hard especially for newbies to sit and wait for reviews while your threads stays empty. I've been there too. I'm sure when the forum looks better everyone will get their reviews. Actually it's kinda cool to be the first to review, cause everybody reads the first!

* Post the trackname with some info on it. By info I don't mean how good it is. A good suggestion methinks would be:

[Genre or style] Artist - Name of track (Mix) - bitrate Sample or full

That's it. The italic parts are optional. E.g. I could be posting something like this:

[Prog. Trance] Yarune - Sync Master (Instrumental Mix) 128 kbps sample

Believe me, that's no more than you need to know. And no less. Assume there are quite some DJ's looking around these forums who want to play nice fresh tracks. You need to present your track in a decent way! There might be some label A&R's around here too.

* And no other nonsense like "I'm drunk and made this" or just "ok", it really looks aweful and doesn't invite people to read your thread, trust me.

The point of this is that there must be a rule for this to give every thread a good and fair chance and to give this part of the forum a better look.

I hope to get some response on this so we can get this rule up for the sake of this forum and by that the sake of us all.

- Jay

Ohh yeah.. I hate those "check this great tune out"-threads, and when you decide to open the thread there's nothing there besides a link. NO information at all..

I think it's a very good idea, and it will be much more helpfull and efficient to find tracks in a genre you want to hear and comment on.

Hm yes that's a good other thing you mentioned: no background information on the track. When you give some information on the track, e.g. your mood when making it or some image fitting with the track, it's far more attractive for visitors to listen to it. Not just "Hi Review pls ktnxbye."

I am with you, I used to post *Plz review* attached to my thread title, and now I see how lame it is. There should be a *Polite Thread Titles Mod* or sort of, lol ... .
Kopi =o.

Hey. You have my support . We should also require a bit of information on the track. I'm not wanting anything as specific as I sometimes post but it would be great if everyone could atleast post all the instruments (hardware/software/samples) they used, track time, the host they used (FLS/Sonar/Cubase/Logic/Reason/Abelton/etc), and track speed (BPM). This is useful information for those people that might want to remix a song and or collab with someone to finish a track.

Cheers,
Zac

Not sure i totally agree DarkSword, i think if the track is good and people want that, its easy to PM or email that person about the details, or even to ask and get a reply in the thread. I know for example that alot of people instantly dismiss Reason as having poor sound quality, and if they saw that a tune is made only in Reason they might not bother to listen and review it.

But i do think that the best way to get replies and comments in your track is simply to work at producing good tunes, and soon enough your name will get around, and if the song is good it will get replies and keep it at the top of the page for more people to see etc

Ok.

But we're talking about just the naming of the thread of a track, thus presenting it to the visitors here. Presentation is a very important part, next to producing. Keep the discussion focussed on that please

yeah, i guess i said it wrong, i meant that since the best way to get noticed is to produce quality, you should just post your artist name and track title, along with sample rate/genre and let the tune do the talking

ie [trance] Armin van Buuren - Shivers [192kbps full]

then it levels the playing field for everyone
