Make it a sticky mate, very good thread I think. I find it hard for myself to really want to open a topic nowadays just because of its name...

You should indeed put the name in the thread title. Never naming an artist name and title in your topic also makes it hard for people to really start remembering you I think, which is quite crucial if you want to be able to see some progression and improvement in time.

I also think a little bit of background info is needed. It just makes it more comfortable somehow for the listener to see where it all came from. Maybe not exactly put all the details about your setup (I don't think it's very relevant towards your sound), but maybe some details about the song itself - in all "assertive-ness"

Cheers,
Wim

Hey cool, a sticky.

Glad to see some support! I'm confident that at least the people posting in this thread supporting the statement will get their tracks well presented here.

Cheers!
-Jay

good idea...

but is it really necessary to have a track title if it is a work in progress?

also, i kind of like the "i made this when i'm drunk" threads. admit it, they're funny!

i don't want TA turning into some strict rule-driven site. i like these forums because of the informality and friendliness. the more professional you make things, the colder they are. TAs a place where i find good songs, get good reviews on my songs, and have fun at the same time

yea maybe the "please review" and "omg this song are teh roxx0r" thread titles need to go, but there's no point in being THAT strict over 'em. If i don't like the title, i don't click. the end.

word I agree 100%

One thing that wasn't covered that really pisses me off is when people add annoying radio compression or put annoying bleeps in between their music so that it doesn't get stolen. I have no problem with you guys not sharing your tunes... It's just that we want to be able to hear the meat of the track and be able to review it.

Here are suggestions you can use to be able to show us a good sample without sharing your track.

Sample at least 2:30 minutes of the track... starting with the breakdown then continuing with the buildup then a little bit like 8 bars of the dancey part... so we hear the climax of the track... not stupid 2 minute clips we've been getting here like the intro... that's nice if it's a track you started, but if it's a complete track, sample someplace where the track is recognizable.

Play a set rip at least 96kbps... if you wanna show us the whole track without flinching, but want the quality to be okay, but still don't want it to be shared... give us a mid quality set rip. That way we hear how the track goes in general, and we'll be able to hear how it mixes well with other tracks, providing you have the track mix points available in your set rip.

or play the whole track in at least 64kbps... that way we hear the whole track form start to finish without having anyone taking the song.

But yeah none of that overcompression crap or messing up the mix..

it should be okay to just add "work in progress" together with the other info in the end of the threads title (like full/sample, bitrate etc.)

shure it's quite funny reading thoose threads but remember that this forumsection is mainly for promoting yourself and your latest work/work in progress. A track that you come up with when your'e drunk is 9 times out of 10 a work that won't even be finished and it's not seriously done. Imho it's quite unfair to the serious producers that they get the light stolen away from them because of "drunken productions"-threads. Besides doesn't that kind of threads belong in the chill out forum rather than here?

all in all I think the rules for naming threads needs to be stricter, the suggestions posted in this thread is great as long as it's kept simple... [genre, artist, trackname (if it has any), remix, other valuable info]
nothing more than that needs to go into the title of the thread.´

and a simple way to solve the problem with people not following the naming rules is simply to change the title for them or in worst case just lock/remove the thread if the author of it keeps breaking the rules.

PS.
A good way to get people into this system is simply that everyone that's read this thread and support the ideas in it start naming their threads like mentioned in here. Soon enough people will start following and do the same

As for Jay M's suggestion, I think it's a great idea. Makes it really easy to skim through the tunes and hear the kind of tracks you're into. I'd hate to miss some quality uplifting trance simply because the thread title was inappropriate

Yeah but i posted my idea here since that thread was closed... :P

and I also think that names aren't that important anymore... you do have a point, you could miss some great tunes... if some guy who hasn't been here before posted something awkward.
