Seems to be a reflection of the web "ideals" in general - as in, providing an outlet for free speech and free markets and empowering the little guy. So in that sense, it's a good thing; artists should be able to sell to the public without having to go through a distributor, because that's the way it works with most other goods and services.
Of course, it also means that those people will have to do all of their own marketing and promotion. And you know what that means... a metric fucktonne of spam in this forum advertising crap tracks on AJ for $3.00 apiece.
When you release your track through a label, they make an independent judgment about how much it's "worth". As we all know, producers are anything but objective about the value of their own tracks. So expect to see a lot of overpriced, overpromoted garbage on there. But there might also be some rare material from timid but talented artists.
That's how free markets usually turn out, after all... 99% of the output is junk, but the 1% at the top is far better than anything you'd ever find in a feudal system (which is what I'd call the label-dominated industry as it currently stands). Eventually, consumers will adjust; they'll learn how to filter out the noise and find what they really want.

this doesnt add anything to the music scene imo... i think it wont last long... i would never put up my older tracks or something up there, isnt it way more satisfying to become better and wait till ur reach the level for some decent record labels.
Putting ur music online like this decreases the motivation to become better and reach a professional level, because its so easy to sell them... i dunno guys
Actually i don't care, had a quick look through some tunes, didnt bother me much and i think i will never visit AJtunes again

Chances are it won't last long indeed. Another chance is that it will.
I don't see the point in not growing after posting my music up there.
After zero sells producers know exactly where they are (or were in case of older tracks).
And then you either quit disappointed, or make efforts to grow. But if these guys keep selling nothing, they think twice or more before they put more stuff online or continue their subscription.
Let me point out why this could be an addition to the music scene: There is so much crap for download at AudioJelly and Beatport. The producers of these tracks would be better off to post on AJTunes, for their wallet and own sake, cause labels don't pay 75%. This results in less shitty labels to dump their tracks on AJ and beatport so more quality in average. Plus labels know where to look for new talent.
It's all to much about finding labels these days, look how quality drops!
I looked around there too and the level is pretty low at this point, but in the long term I think it's a real good initiative and some good and PURE things could show up here.
