As to those who want me to change style, I'm sorry but it's not going to work. I like to produce this style as being 'Icone' and I definately won't change. This is not the way it works I think. I will use different guises to perhaps try some prog (don't think this will happen, but anywayz) or change sounds and patterns. I am not really fond of making tons and tons of guises and staying totally unidentifiable in the scene. I hope this is clear once and for all, I'm getting really tired of this by now *sigh*

I agree, but to me it seems like you're using a certain preset with sounds - over and over again... There's just not much creativity coming from your tracks anymore, cuz I've heard it all before

exactly, its not that i want you to change style but to keep your upcoming tracks interesting for people like me and alex who heard all of your previous works (and im still liking them a lot, especially your earlier works like a world of ice and everywhere) i think you should use new sounds and structure mayb without losing the banging style you have right now. Just a suggestion though but i think all artists need to keep evolving their music and sounds....

^Yeah, and especially the bass, synths and some certain percussians.

The Clearing:
Everything is great production-wise.
There is nothing really interesting in it.
The lead arp is cool but still, nothing that I've never heard before.

2/5

The Touch Of Summer:
The bass is nice here but it should be thicker.
I swear it's almost the same pluck.
Nice strings.
Great guitar but imo it should be without anything behind it.

3/5

I agree with Stijn and Alex.
You can still keep your own style but you gotta change the synths from time to time.
"I hope this is clear once and for all, I'm getting really tired of this by now *sigh*"
We're not telling you to change becuase we don't like you or your music, on the contrary, we like you and your music and we we'll hate to lose it.
Right now you are starting to be like the rest of the gang (armin, tiesto, ferry ect).
Don't keep yourself in one formula just because the labels are paying you to do so.
"Never be a prisonor of your own style" - armin said that, and now look at him...
He broke his own rule, I think.

Omer

all i would do is possibly change the synth sounds a bit. but if this is what you like to use then stick with it. its an instantly recognisable style that i like.

I do know what you guys are talking about, I hear this myself in my music - as Icone - as well. The are similarities in my sounds; of course. For example, I love to use plucks though I try to use some variations in their sounds and patterns. That's practically all I could do to vary as much as possible about them, no?

I think it's hard to EVERY trance artist to go outside of the "intro-buildup-break-main sequence-outro" structure. I've never known trance to be any different... I grew up with artists that kept onto the same style and that's what I liked about them. It makes them identifiable and if you like them, you'd know what to expect and you just know you're gonna like it.

I never said I want to be prisoner of my own style or that I AM someone who is going to revolutionise trance music as it is. I'm just a guy (read: the so maniest 'bedroom producer') that likes to play around with melodies, synths and use sounds that I really like. That's what made me get into making trance in the first place.

Anyhow, enough said about that I guess... I'm not looking to become the next Armin, Tiesto, god knows who - I am who I like to be and I AM gonna stay that way

Hehe, don't let that stuff get you down, one of the most beautiful things about your music is the fact that I can recognize who it is, You're doing really good work, as far as becoming the next Armin? You aren't far from it, the only difference? Is that the world hasn't discovered you yet, other than that, I'd kill to have creativity in my production as much as you do , and Im not just kissing your ass, I've always been mesmerized listening to your tracks on my Mp3 player. I still have to rate Touch of Summer lol.

Re: :)

It's not that I am getting worked up by it, I think it just totally spoils the topic and goes way too off-topic in the end... It's not really very helpful criticism if you know what I mean. It's also perhaps not appliccable for 95% of the people that hear one of my tracks for the first time

I don't feel like I should be compared with those guys that have made it big time. I don't think it's useful for anyone and I myself don't really deserve it...

Sorry to stay off topic but I remember Armin playing one of your tracks (dont remember which) in ASOT and that was really really refreshing and sounded great compared to other work. So no need to drift off. Most 'trance' productions made today are polluted with other genres' influences. You have your own pure trance style which is uplifting and that should be respected as well next to your skills as a producer. I'm glad you just stay put

So any luck with labels yet?

I love your style, Wim!! But sometimes I wonder if you have a certain preset that you work from every time... Because I recognize soooo much in each track. Hehe, so while I'm listening, I'm like "Oh no, not that one again" and I can sort of predict the whole track... But your music IS a fresh breath into the trance-genre, imo. More people should make melodic beauties, like yours But it's just the issue about these sounds that kinda messes with my brain when I hear your tracks... Every new track I hear from you is like a clichè of the last one.

But I don't say that you should change your style, and I'm not saying that I dislike your sounds... Just try to give the audience something new But one thing's for sure - You make beautiful melodies!!!
