Well the DJ needs to react to the public and the other way around. It's not just taking care of that there is music all the time. You forget the most important part

Oh, for advantages I mean like maybe having a DJ can have seemless swapping without the audience getting angry when a track suddenly stops and starts.
Is this another reason?

Why when you go to a concert don't they just play the CD on a really big sound system?
It's the same question. Cos that would be boring wouldn't it! The DJ is part of the show, and can react to what the crowd wants.

Human beings are addicted to interaction.
When people see their "idol" or just somebody doing his/her work and e.g. expressing their emotions while doing their work, the public feels more involved.
When Tiësto takes the mic and tells the crowd he loves them during a concert, the crowd goes wild. It's the same kind of interaction, but then in just words.

What are the advantages of DJ'ing?
In clubs, why don't they just play a long track on a cd player or turntable left alone?
What are the advantages?
Maybe something is being lost in some translation or something but I have to say that it has nothing to do with advantages.
Being a DJ is just something you know you want to be. If you love music do it, if you think it's got something to do with ego then forget it.
Having fun should be the only advantage that matters.

Have you ever been to a club? I mean a proper one?
It's all about getting people excited and you can't do that just by playing a long CD. Interaction is a major part no matter how subtle it seems.
