well.. my favourite music genre used to be rock music...

and i would always tune in to our local radio station 104.9 xfm for rock music... and every saturday night they have a show called velocity which plays electronic music

so one night i tuned in, and i'm like wtf... where's the rock music...
and then my body started moving uncontrollably to the trance music that was being played and to this day... i'm addicted to trance

my ex was a punk rock girl before she started going to raves with me... she's more into hardcore but she likes trance too! perhaps there is a connection....:toocool:

you're just not looking in the right places then... music isn't only confined to the radio and MTV (MUCH in canada, =P)...

seems like there's a lot of punk -> trance conversions around here... punk was definitely my first love... but now i keep up with trance more than i keep up with punk...

punk is great...the true punk that is...i mean sex pistols, early clash, xray specs, the jam..they were inspired by roxy music....after punk was post punk AKA new wave and then from new wave trance came about,

for some reason the new wave people listened to punk and from that electronic music came about...

people that are devout fans of music in general, like us trance fans, we love the music like they do, it is all about the music!

trance and punk are underground. its only the cheesy side of both of those genre's which bring them up to the top and everyone thinks its not underground anymore.. when do you think a REAL trance song will get into the top40? fkn never, same as a real punk song (no im not talkin about the s blink 182, they're just as cheesy as dj sammy is to trance)..
i dont mind punk, its 10x better than any commercial bull out there nowadays, but my real love is trance/hard-trance.. i would marry them if i could : )

i'd have to disagree with you here.... try starting a thread with the words HIP HOP, RAP, or JA RULE in the title... the threads will be flooded with ignorance within a matter of minutes...

i'm just so glad none of that has made its way into this thread... TAs are pretty respectful of punk music...

Hm, you just made the most ignorant comment on this thread. First of all, Ja Rule is not really hip hop, he's just a booty dance MTV rap MC, there's a big difference.

Second of all, contemporary punk (post-post-punk) is a genre intrinsically inferior to all the electronic genres (including hip hop) because it is anachronistic, outdated music that only evokes a form of artistic expression that is dead.

This is my perspective as a classical musician. Like it or not, hip hop is the most influential genre of our generation and also happens to be electronic dance music. Lyrics don't matter. It's all about the beats and the music. And when I say hip hop I'm talking about Grandmaster Flash, Cut Chemist, Q Bert etc. not 50 Cent or Eminem.

Innovation lies in emphasizing on electronic soundscapes, any kind of music that its ethos is centered around the lyrics is inferior, i'm sorry but that's the truth. There are a few bands here and there that understand that the importance lies in the music and not the lyrics, but they are a minority. Like Sigur Ros for example, they are geniuses. But punk? What are you kidding me? That's all noise. :haha:

^^

when did i ever call ja rule hip hop?

lyrics are just as valid as music when it comes to artistic expression... songs that focus on lyrics are no less artistic than a purely instrumental piece..

from my perspective the human voice should be treated as another musical instrument, the lyrics are irrelevant in terms of the MUSIC.

sure, lyrics can be part of the performer's artistic expression, but since they're musicians I care more about the music than anything else. lyrics are just as expressive as looks and fashion nowadays, where the business is all about image.

that's why as a classical musician i have never cared for most rock and pop but have a special love for electronic music (including real hip hop).

ignorance has made its way to this thread... Classical Musician pfft.....sooo what you know how to play a little piano? or maybe 1 instrument. A true musician will respect all music for what it is and nothing more. To say 1 musical style is inferior to another ...well all i gotta say is take your head out of your ass and enjoy the world and everything in it. Learn to respect things for what they are. Next you'll prolly come back saying i lack any knowlege of music when infact im "sure" my musical abilities far exceed your own...

Oh and to who ever said they are seeing NOFX in june......ING ROCK ON ive seen them 2 times here they were awesome both times...
