I don't understand why you people who are so picky about mixing keep ignoring the fact that the stuff that DJ playes IS JUST as important.
Saying that Carl Cox is better than Oakey or vice versa because one can mix better than other is non-sense. I'm sure there are amazing hip-hop DJs who can mix even better than Carl Cox, so are you gonna say that they are better DJs then Carl Cox ? NO, cause they spin different music and hence are in different category of DJing..
IMHO any DJ who can create an amazing vibe at a venue is a good DJ.. Oakey was able to do it in 99-2000.. Not anymore. |

Ouch... another flamewar in an event thread.
I don't know what the big deal is... #1, it seems sort of uncalled for to crap on event threads because you don't like the DJ(s), but #2 it's also uncalled for to tell people they're sheep because they don't like the DJ (which was the reason I posted). Two wrongs don't make a right...
Anyway, I think people have tunnel vision here. This type of thing isn't new, it's happened dozens of times in the rock music sect too. Maybe it's a lame example but look at the Smashing Pumpkins, a lot of their old fans (before they got popular) started to hate them when they got too "experimental" with their music. Oakie's gotten experimental, and in the process gained some new fans and lost some old fans. Let's not use this thread to bash him OR his fans OR his non-fans! I don't really like Oakie but I have to admit he does have a reputation for creating a hell of a vibe, so I might actually consider going to this event. |

umm, no, its not... it's classic house saturdays, progressive house fridays... except for special events obviously... plus morales was there about a month ago on a saturday and i wouldn't classify him as progressive... lol |
Whatever dawg... I still wouldn't classify Evil P, Addy, Kenny Glasgow, Deko-ze & Satoshi Tomiie that were there 7 out of the last 8 saturdays as "classic house"... sure, Eddie Amador and David Morales were there in the last two months, but that's only two nights out of 8. And I dunno about Fridays, haven't really been to System on a Friday night in a while now. Then again, your conception of house and trance might be a bit "twisted", so... |

Hmmm, you're probably right about that now that I think about it... Anyways, this was taken of system's website:
BREATHE FRIDAYS:
One spectacular Friday after the next...Breathe has managed to introduce more talent to the city of Toronto than any other promoter in the history of the city (including 56 different international guests and 27 debuts...and still counting). Originally begun as a progressive house night...Breathe managed to survive and thrive as the only weekly prog-house event in North America and one of the most successfull and internationally-regarding clubnights in the entire world receiving multiple write-ups in American and UK-based dance music magazines, numerous mentions on UK and US radio shows and even managing to have two resident DJs at the time (Mark Scaife and Luke Fair) heralded as "People to Watch in 2002" in DJ Magazine. Now, having educated an entire scene on the fundamentals and variables of progressive house, Breathe has widend it's scope to include quality artists from other genres including techno and trance. Where do we go from here? You'll have to party along with us to discover what the future holds...

| Then again, that description hasn't been updated for like a year now... it's been there since day 1. It still isn't that far off... just ask anyone that goes to System regularly, they might clear the things up a bit. |
