Some of his 2000 are really awesome too, since then i dont care for his style but still respect him

I am hearing he is starting to change back to his old ways though??

werd :p :toothless

Oakey is still a good dj. the man plays to the crowd. if the crowd wants cheesey dance he'll play it...his sets over in Europe and some parts of Asia are still gold...his recent set from Shanghai, brilliant...one of the first djs to drop Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes. I saw him last year @ the hockey rink...err hershey centre and he was pretty good...a lot of euro tracks but i enjoyed myself and so did the crowd...he's not gonna play exclusively to a group of TAs taste in music...

Saying that Carl Cox is better than Oakey or vice versa because one can mix better than other is non-sense. I'm sure there are amazing hip-hop DJs who can mix even better than Carl Cox, so are you gonna say that they are better DJs then Carl Cox ? NO, cause they spin different music and hence are in different category of DJing..

IMHO any DJ who can create an amazing vibe at a venue is a good DJ.. Oakey was able to do it in 99-2000.. Not anymore.

No offence, but I don't understand why you ignored how I said as much in the post previous to the one you're replying to with these comments. And besides, this is all a result of someone claiming that Oakey was technically better than Carl Cox. My point was that Oakey is not technically better than Carl Cox. I'll leave it at that, lest things get out of hand.

<--- Despite his anti-Oakey sentiments, admits that the man was amazing back in '99 and '00. Teh E-mixes from Havana, and London, and Gatecrasher, and others, were all pure gold.

Is this still on?!

I was on the Goldclub website and I saw that there is a Goldclub Series Party in the Kool Haus that day, I was wondering if Oakie was going to be spinning there instead now???

hmmmmmmmmm...

I have mixed feelings about this party :conf:

For one, it's going to be so overpacked I'll feel like a sardine and from what I remember, systems is a fairly small club (compared to some). I for one love to dance and I have a feeling I won't be able to at this party - what fun is that? It's also hard for me to concentrate on the music, really enjoy it and be in my glory when I'm being completely paralyzed by people. I guess you can't avoid this no matter where you go now. So disregard this point :p

We all know that Oakenfold has become a "commercial" dj for trance - technically - but is that really his fault? no
Stating that fact, I can imagine what kind of crowd will be at this event. :nervous: End of story. But on the other hand, as was mentioned earlier, Oakie has done his fair share for Trance. He's a highly respected dj and I haven't seen him spin since that rave at the better living centre 3 or 4 years ago! :D hahaha.. and I must say that the set he spun that night was incredible!! Now I hear that his sets aren't that great, so all in all I think I'll probably pass on this party :happy2: We'll see. :p

Personally, I am one of these peeps that does not particularily like Oakie. But I actually didn't like him for a long time without ever seeing him live. Then I did see him live last year and he played pretty good. Still it wasn't something that I would describe as the best set and I'm not all magically in love with the guy's sets. Max Graham spun a sick ass set tho. Technically Oakie is just a DJ, obviously better then me but just a simple mixer, not doing anything fancy. Some DJs you just get that feeling of "How the did he do that with the music?". And with Oakie you just don't.

Oh and, 1999 is OVER PEOPLE! 2003 is here!

I think there should be a poll, Oakie: Oui ou Non?

1999 ... !!! whooohoo !! :D

ahhhhh .. memories .......

I'll be passing this one foresure! Even if I were in the city I'd pass this party up. You either pay a high ticket/cover price and/or be so packed you can't move just to hear 2hrs worth of Oakenfold. I don't 2hrs worth of Oakenfold would be worth all the hassel... Even if it were 1999 all over again.

something to keep in mind is dj's are live performers just like musicians, actors and athletes and you're not always going to get the same show....some sets are great, some good and some, meh.....

seaman was at lotus a month ago and bombed in some people's minds....saturday night he had a kick-ass set....the last two times sasha's been here it's been to very mediocre reviews...tiesto's set at kool haus was nothing to write home about...they have good nights and bad nights...

i think if ya give up on a dj becuase his last set wasn't up to par you could be missing out on alot...my two cents

:tongue3

that's a good point. it can also get extremely subjective. i'm thinking particularly about digweed's lat time here. i think it depends a lot on what ppl are expecting, sometimes when they get something different they aren't too happy.

i saw oakie last summer, it was pretty good, but it was max graham that rocked the place.

That an interesting comment, about how big DJs seem to be letting people down on occasion. DJs used to say that North America was easier to please because we didn't have set high expectations being that everything was relatively new. This was unlike Europe where people were very picky about the sets they played. We were just happy to hear the big DJ and that was good enough for us. Looks like the honeymoon is over and the bar has been raised.

Oakey is Oakey, when he is on his game he is one of the best...
Like Tiesto, he has a feel for the crowd and for the set flow....
