I generally don't accept drinks either, even from friends (unless it's my birthday or something) - but needless to say it would be flattering. Us guys do get sick of having to initiate all the time. Many many girls won't risk rejection by starting up, and are content to wait for guys to shower attention on them because they know it'll happen, because of their appearance; this is one reason I don't try very hard to pick people up in clubs, because this isn't the kind of person I'd be interested in.

And I think the phrase "old hat" was appropriate because even the phrase itself was obsolete by the '80s. Buying girls drinks went out of fashion in the '70s.

I didn't know that people bought drinks for the shooter girls... lol, that's hard to visualize. :p

That's very rare... most women won't bother wasting 10 minutes chatting - they know they can find another guy who'll do it in 30 seconds.

But yeah, Tordan is right, obviously you have to pay attention to their signals, if they look distracted when they're talking to you, or if they ask you for the drink after a few minutes, it's probably a bad sign. In fact, I think if a stranger asked me for a drink (other than a sip of my water), I would walk away right then and there.

Well, girls certainly shouldn't "expect" guys to buy them drink, but I don't think there is anything wrong with buying girl a drink.. So what if it doesn't go anywhere.. if a girl would sleep with any guy who'd buy her a drink, wouldn't she be a slut anyway? IMHO buying girl a drink is a good and gentleman way to start a conversation, which may or may not lead anywhere... it sure beats grabbing girl by the ass or sticking your dick up her ass during some r'n'b song.

im honestly neutral on this topic cos at times i think of buying a girl a drink but then i see my lack of funds and dont:rolleyes:

but as durafei said..it IS know to be appropriated to start up with a drink. it shows interest that one is attracted to and is willing to pay for a drink for the other. its rare to find women that only mooch drinks off the guy... but they do exist.

and diginut, the buying a drink concept never died..it will always be around for as long as chivalry is.

I definately agree with everything you said. Girls who allow guys to buy them drinks and then end up doing with them purely for that reason do kind of give off the vibe of a skank, etc.
I do agree that girls should not expect guys to buy them drinks. I know i don't and there have been many occasions where i actually have offered to buy my guy friends/of course boyfriend drinks. I don't like this whole idea of girls getting stuff paid for at all times (surely once in a while it could be alright and if the guy really insists). With me and my boyfriend we either split the costs or if one buys one time then the other does the same next time.

You may think this is stupid and you're entitled to your opinion, but IMO, if you absolutely must buy drinks, then this is the way to go about it:
1. Find them, introduce yourself, see if you can hold up a conversation with them for at least 10 minutes, see if they laugh at your lame jokes, etc.
2. If you're getting along, then excuse yourself for JUST a few minutes, go to the bathroom or something, see if the person is still around when you come back.
3. Talk a few more minutes, then offer the drink.

This shows all the chivalry of buying them a drink, but lets you weed out the leeches. Talking to her beforehand also shows the girl that you're not just trying to booze her up so you can screw her.

P.S. I agree, grabbing or slapping asses is lame. Sometimes you won't just get smacked for it, you'll get elbowed in the face or kicked in the balls.

I agree... that's just wrong. I'd rather buy her a drink than get slapped in front of 100s of people.
