I meant to post a similar thread because despite of the incredible amount of garbage, there is some good UK Garage.
Roni Size - Lucky Pressure (MJ Cole mix)
Unfortunately, that's the only tune I can think of right now because I'm having some trouble findind something worth listening. I once heard a remix of some j-pop song from Umek and another guy which was good to - and yes, it was UK garage :) |

187 Lockdown - Gunman
MJ Cole - Sincere
Artful Dodger - Re-wind
(When The Crowd say bo-selecta)
older ones

each to their own.. why do ppl persist on pushing their beliefs towards other ppl..
anyway i like uk garage a lot.. but i gotta admit there's a LOT of going around.. that minimal crap.
anyway my favourite garage producers are:
- sunship
- mj cole
- bump & flex
- zed bias
other artists to sometimes look out for are:
- steve gurley
- chunky
- ed case
overrated crews who really arent 'all that':
- so solid crew (latest album sucks)
- heartless crew (some good rhyming here though.. they're all ex d&b rhymers)
- pay as you go cartel (also some good rhyming like heartless crew) |

there are so many forms of UK Garage these days.
Before '99 it was known as Speed Garage, and was very similar to House music, with its 4/4 beats and instrumental sounds.
Around 99, 2 Step began to show its prominence and there were 2 bands of the genre. There was the heavy beat orientated music which was mainly used as the underpinings for a ty MC shouting a load of bollocks (see So Solid Crew :stongue: )
There was however a good strain of 2 step which focused more on a female vocal and RnB-esque vibe. There wan't any aggression in this type unlike the other one, and was actually quite good.
examples are
SFA - Flowers
can remember the artist name, but the vocalist was called elizabeth troy and the tune was called - Enough is Enough
Shola Ama - Imagine
Kay C and JoJo - Tell me that its real
DJ Zinc - 138 Trek
Fortunately, UK garage has now effectively dissolved into many different styles. There is a brief article in Mixmag about it. There are now 3 prominent styles. There is the heavy hip hop influenced garage, the more RnB influenced garage and house influenced garage. Effectively this means garage doesn't really exist as it is now part of the other genres.

Because UK garage has become some ultra commerical which is shoved down our throats - if you lived in the UK you would have no problem calling it .
These UK Garage 'stars' grew up in reasonably nice areas of London, yet claim the places they grew up are worse than Compton or the Bronx... and it just isnt true.
They also bring a bad name to clubbing in general, recently, during a UK garage night at Turnmills, someone was shot and killed. Turnmills is a club that has trance nights all the time with top djs etc... ferry... tiesto etc, but now it's reputation has been put damaged, all because of these twats thinking they are fcking gangsters.
Half of them have been in prison for gun related crimes. Its getting incredibly stupid.... and even more stupid is that their music is being pushed to little 12 year old kids. |

UK Garage is wank, a stain on the UK's music industry. Too much attitude about it and I havent got a ing clue what the vocals say.
Hopefully as a genre it will die soon, or go underground where is wont be shoved down our throats and only people who want it can get it - which is fair enough. |
