wienerschnitzel: it's a very noble decision, way to go :) In fact, I'm trying to do the same thing actually... it's a bit hard, but I believe it pays off in the future  (by the way, please tell me you're serious too, otherwise this post will become stupid instead of supportive :p)

Try to see the good side of it:
1) You won't get pregnant
2) You won't choke
3) You won't see it
4) You won't have problems with constipation for some time
5) You won't bother if he misses the target again next time
6) You won't be afraid of walking backwards in public anymore
7) You will make someone happy for the rest of his life
8) You wil find out why gay men are so gay :toothless
9) You will do something you never thought you would do
10) You'll save the life of a Pakistani butterfly
j/k :D |

why is it a noble decision? what does marriage have to do with love these days. 50% of all marriages in america end up in divorce so tell me what was the point of waiting? to give yourself to someone who turns out to be a complete ? you don't have to marry someone to love them. i'm sorry i just don't understand why waiting until marriage is so "honorable."
the only view i've ever heard supporting abstinence is religion, and as an existentialist, i don't really find that argument valid.
i'm not trying to criticize people who do wait, i mean they must have very good will power, but i honestly do not understand.
if you ARE a virgin by the time you get married, i imagine you've done everything else under the sun. so why is SEX so much worse than say oral sex?
any views on this matter would be welcomed. |

I'll never wait for marriage to have sex :). On a more serious note I'd never do anything that could be permanently seriously damaging for me.

I agree with you completely. Marriage is only a formality which doesn't really mean much. Especially since there's also the divorce option. |

Yikes! i guess i better explain myself... When i was a kid, i had 2 goals in life... go to europe, and not have sex before i was married. I am not sure why these were my goals, but at least i found 2. So i haven't been to europe yet which is really dissapointing, but i have managed to maintain abstinance. So prolikewhoa... you are right, i have done everything under the sun but the actual intercourse itself... but i am still holding out for the big day. I also believe you can love someone without marrying them, and i am in love and not married! But the reason I chose to carry out my goal was because i still believe in marriage and the sacredness of it. My parents are still happliy married and i am not going to assume that whoever i marry is going to turn into a complete and do awful things and we will split up. So since im still a believer of marriage, and my religion, in which i follow, ties into it too... i am stuck a horny virgin until my wedding day. Im not knocking anyone elses way of going about marrige or sex, i just thought maybe i needed to back my "things i would never EVER do" statement up.
:D
ok, sorry for the temporary hijack...

I guess she's doing something because of her belief that marriage can be something more meaningful than sharing a bank account or carrying a ring with someone else's name... and I admire it because I agree that marriage (and sex) should be a lot more than that. I'm not saying I condemn people who have sex before marriage either (yeah, I'm not doing this because of religion)... I guess I'd better explain my point of view on this issue because you said you wanted to understand and, in my opinion, it's always nice to share different points of view - any feedback to my words is welcome too:)
Nothing belongs to us. The people who we love, our family, even this keyboard I'm using right now... one day they shall be gone. There are just two things that remain in life: feelings and memories. Trying to find a meaning for life is rather complicated, but when you look for a feeling... we feel emotions all the time: anger, sadness, happiness...
"Marriage" means essentially partnership. I'm not talking about the cerimony: I'm talking about two people actually sharing their lives. I want to be able to see the world from the eyes of someone I love; I want to wake up knowing that I'm complete not because there's someone with me, but because we're there to support each other in this cold world... being aware that one day destiny might separate us. And you might ask: what has it got to do with virginity?
The "1st" time we do anything in life is often special. Our first kiss, the first time we drive a car, the first day in university... it "tastes" like discovery. And I want this discover to be as special as it can get. I want it to be with this person I'm willing to spend my life with.
As for marriages in America, the problem is that people (in my opinion) are too selfish and hurt nowadays. It's all about themselves, because they don't know whether they can trust (I guess), and I understand it: if I were in such enviroment, maybe I would think this way too. There's also the "sex is just a penis in a vagina" point of view: but I really can't live being so rational and ignoring feelings. I just can't live that way, and I've got nothing against people who do.
I want to feel life at its best, being aware that I'm not the one who controls it. I want to know more and more about everything, being aware that I can be wrong. Finally, I want to wake up being aware that I'm the one who decides if life is a gift or a curse :)
In case you're curious: no, i'm not religious (despite of the fact that I come from a catholic family, I don't go to church and I study about Buddhism) and yes, I've had the chance to have sex with people I fancied (including butt-sex :D), but I guess you know what happened |

well i didn't mean that ALL marriages end up badly. my parents have been married almost 23 years. although both of them were married and divorced once before they met eachother. i respect your decision, and your will power, but i still kinda don't get it. but yay for you!
one more thing...
dave i'll give you a nickel if you can come up with 5 reasons anal sex between a heterosexual couple is "honorable" |
