Who thinks MTV is tainting electronic music?
I live in america and ive had to endure through the BS pop giant, MTV. They started in the early 80's i believe. At first they had some cool, new, at the time stuff, like old school hip-hop and 80's dance music. I watched that stuff when i was a little guy, but after awhile it just turned into making profit, but it was ok because i found electronic music.
MTV started introducing boy bands and flashy artists. They started to produced shows like Mtv awards, which now they have shows deticated on how "Great" the awards were, and "i can't believed that happened" stuff. They play those shows all the time, it makes me wanna puke. Then here comes TRL, gaaa , i wanted to punch that guy in the face, carson daily. They also have rap, which alot of the times talk about shootin and killin and in people. Then they brign in things like britney spears and cristina agulara. You know they mass produce all that whore . Most of what they market are toward the youth of the world. How do you think this message is to the third world country youth. I once saw on the discovery channel a hut in indonesia where the kids looked very undernurished and in poverty, but they had a britney spears poster on the wall(???). That company is forcing that evil type culture on the world.
What really pisses me off is that when i view videos and pics of dance valley and events like that, I see a large MTV flag in the background. What the heck, they have no right to be there. The style of what they call "music" is the totally opposite of electronic music. All they are there for is to make profit, make a claim on the scene because the electronic music is becoming really popular, and they don't want to miss any potential profit. All i can say I don't like MTV and their ways. How about you?:sadgreen: |

Yeah mtv is , i never watch it. All it ever has is metal/rap/pop on.
There used to be a good channel called rapture that had decent music in it, like live broadcasts from gatecrasher and stuff but like a year ago something happened and it just disappeared :( |

I think it's fair to say that pretty much any form of mass media is profit-driven, and will commercialize just about anything they can in any way they can to make money. Music is just another vehicle for these people to sell something to their audience.
As for electronic music, some electronic music has been commercial from the beginning (think car ads), so it's hard to judge on that basis. I think jungle, techno, and even house are pretty safe from the media because they just aren't suitable for mass consumption; however, trance has already been warped into media-friendly genres and will probably start becoming more commercial soon. But as one might expect, the commercial forms of that music will be to trance what commercial hip-hop is to its underground counterpart.
Anyway, I guess the real question is, why does this surprise you? MTV isn't there to educate people on music, it's there to make money. Of course they'll "taint" electronic music with their marketing gimmicks, just like they've tainted just about every other music. |

Ok, the events i see Mtv at, are events that mostly play trance, so thats the type of electronic music im goin by.
I never said it surprises me. I just think a company that has a reputation for living by tainted ways(judgemental, material greed, sex, drugs, violence), should not spread those ways to a form of music which has barely any words to taint it with. |

Once again, none of the music you speak of was driven by greed, sex, drugs, or violence before MTV and MTV culture got their hands on it. Not metal, not rock, not even hip hop. Trance and other kinds of electronic music are no exception to the rule.
Obviously, for us that have been aware of the music for years, it sucks that MTV is starting to commercialize it, and of course they "shouldn't" be, but of course they're going to anyway, and if they pump enough bling-bling into it then the public will eat it up, end of story.
It's like telling a heartless sexhound that he shouldn't fool around with a virgin... you think he's going to listen? :p |

I don't you if your agreeing with me or not. Mabye you don't know what im saying or mabye you just need to think things through by posting.
I'll help you out what im trying to say.
American Rap, pop, Rock, ect, and greed, lust, violence, materialisim, = MTV
MTV = evil
Trance = clean
Trance + MTV = Tainted
Oh and don't tell me that some of the Rap, pop, Rock are not tainted before MTV touches it because the basis of some of that stuff is is basically evil. |

I totally agree with what you just stated, I have the same exact feeling about MTV. Its forcing a culture into the throat of millions of people and at a younger age too... can you imagine, MTV is between the disney channel and some other kid channel on dish over here!?! that is more than ed up! its a ing organized mass brainwashing for kids.
I think about that stupid show where kids explore sexuality where being gay, lesbian and or bisexual is sooo cool and fun that every kid gotta try it. That monogamy is something out of this world, orgies are fun, etc. Its so suggestive that it almost looks like the whole show was made to convince people that those lifestyles are the only ones that exist. |
