sorry I dont think tiesto drops hits again and again, instead he makes obscure songs into hits...
NYANA was a great compilation bar the first 5 songs on the first CD, the rest of the 15 songs mixed flowed reasonably well... and it was good track selection... |

Yes it was a good selection, but if Tiesto is DJ n.1 he could have done something more interesting; or it turns to be this way:
no Tiesto live = Nyana at home.
Tiesto live = same as Nyana at home.
Difference = loudness. |

To be completely honest, I think OBir and many other lesser known DJ's have spun much much better sets than the top 4 DJ's. I really don't understand the hype with PVD, I haven't enjoyed many of his sets this year. His Cream Amnesia set last year was ing incredible, but nothing this year has lived up to it.
If anyone will win due to people jumping on the bandwagon it will be PVD. I don't really think Armin deserves it because his sets have been bordering on boring. I haven't heard much of Ferry this year so can't really comment on him, same with Tiesto because I don't bother to listen to his sets, never been a big fan of him.
I think Markus Schulz has done more than anyone for EDM in general this past year. His own reconstructions, his productions, and his consistent flawless mixing with the best tunes out there make him the best DJ imo. Not to mention all he has done for spreading the scene in America, which no one else has been able to do as of late.
But as someone else said, it's a popularity contest, so those who are deserving of it probably won't even make it into the Top 25 (i.e. Matt Hardwick, OBir, Schulz, et al). |

Anyone but PvD ! I mean you could hardly call "Nothing but you" and "Time of our lives" original sounds, they were purely produced to appeal to the wider public and definately used by pvd to make a big name for himself on the local charts etc. Pvd is definately not the dj he was a couple years back !
Out of those top 4 mentioned, which the winner is most likely to come out of, I would say Tiesto again. His productions this year, in my mind, having been nothing short of class. His sets trancend that unpredictability, which keeps everyone listening on edge. So yeah Tiesto in my mind forsure |

You are correct, when I saw him in June; a month after the NYANA release. About half the tracks he played were from NYANA, but u have to understand that those were probably his favorite 27 tracks.
Mind you in a set that goes for 2 and half hours he would play roughly the same amount of tracks, say he plays half of those thats still good percentage of new and innovative tracks :).
Every DJ is gonna play their favorite tracks, you just cant help it, Im not sure if youve tried djing...but thats a fact...nobody enjoys playin something they dont like...:D |

Oh for sake get off of it. Making a DVD was paul's "original" idea, hardly... Reflections wasn't that great. it should have been hailed the same was "bunkka" was, same type of thing, but people were more gentle the second time around bashing a big name artist (oakie took all the flakk for trying something new, and paul got off lucky) i guess.
Tiesto has had productions this year (ala Traffic, Nyana) and also a mix compilation (Nyana).
Besides the fact that "productions" and "dj-ing" are in theory exclusive things (doesn't work out in practice so well) and you shouldn't rate one's djing abilities on productions.
Tiesto played some banging sets this summer as well (amnesia off the top of my head), tiesto in concert is something you can downplay all you want but, it *was* significant.
that being said I'm not really partial to either of them, both have their merits but i think such dogmatic claims must be dismissed... |

| I voted for emerging talents this year, James Zabiela, moshic, as well as Tijs because i feel he has had an outstanding year, paul has been producing satisfying works which i enjoyed and as always dropped excelent sets, will be interesting to see how the votes come out this year, i will laugh if the order is unchanged from last year, if tiesto is voted number one for 2 years in a row i will be happier to see it this year than last he has done far more to earn it, but at least he lived up to it following the award |

I share your opinion EXACTLY
after Tiesto became #1, so many ignorant people started crowding up his gigs, and where I most noticed it: his message board.
prior to the #1 days, the message board was what I would call a close-knit group of true, die-hard fans, who knew everything about Tiesto, and a ton about trance in general. Now it is clotted up with ignorant twats who just hopped on the Tiesto bandwagon once they heard he was #1, because only as #1 was he able to penetrate the commercial depths that those people come from. Most of them knew little to nothing about Tiesto, his career, or any other type of trance. It annoyed the hell out of me, and out of the other original members likewise, and most of us ended up leaving the forum.
This is true for the gigs I have seen him at as well...
Therefore, I am very antagonistic when it comes to the DJ top 100. On one hand, I hope that Armin wins it, because I think he is the most deserving of it (in the TRANCE genre, mind you). On the other hand, as an Armin fan, I fear how becoming #1 would change him and his fanbase for the worse...
ps: I wish to God that people would vote in this contest based PURELY on DJing ability. Leave productions and popularity crap out of it. Perhaps if we conducted it this way, some of the more talented and lesser-known DJs would move up. IMO, J00F should be in atleast the top 10 if talent, track selection, and uniqueness as a DJ were judged.
The fact that PVD has never won truely shocks me, he is long overdue. The reason I put Armin as #1 is really because I think he deserved it last year instead of Tiesto. I put PVD second, because he has really been stellar this year...but then again, he always has.
btw, does anyone know of a site that has an archive of the DJ Mag Top 100 all previous years? |

| Armin has picked up tons of steam this year and I thought his popularity was surely gonna put him at the top until PvD dropped that awesome set at Energy. Now I think it will be pretty close between those two. |
