I think Markus Schulz has done more than anyone for EDM in general this past year. His own reconstructions, his productions, and his consistent flawless mixing with the best tunes out there make him the best DJ imo. Not to mention all he has done for spreading the scene in America, which no one else has been able to do as of late.
But as someone else said, it's a popularity contest, so those who are deserving of it probably won't even make it into the Top 25 (i.e. Matt Hardwick, OBir, Schulz, et al). |
So true. I'd rather go see Markus tear it up than any of those guys.

Just to let you know
This isn't necesarilly who'll finish number 1, it's the top of the perrennial big 4, the 4 who carry a hype & the likes by continually doing well in it.
It's nothing to do with releases or singles, cos like I've said earlier, it's DJ not producing that I'm trying to base this on, and maybe others don't, but imo you should, going simply by DJ sets, it's been paul who has played well, and Mikey or anyone else will know that I'm not his biggest fan, but he has blown me away with sets like energy 2003 & Nature one, and I wasn't saying 'who will win' just trying to have a decent discussion about those 4 dj's and a lot of ppl have done that.
Guys like Jon O'Bir will have their day, Markus too, and non-trance DJs, there are a hell of a lot who I like, but they'd never make number 1 cos they're not universally masturbated over, like for example Tidy Boys, Eddie Halliwell, Cally&Juice (who most ppl here won't know but are incredibly talented) Nick Rafferty, Hybrid (who i think produce better still than DJ)
Since I've gone to bed & got up, yes there are some good points, but there are also a lot of ones who obviously didn't get the point of this, these 4 do not have to be 1,2,3 & 4 in the list, and we shall see soon.
To stop this turning into a flame war or the usual bs, thanks to all those who've posted meaningful.... Mikey, Beema & many more to mention, but I'm gonna close this now, cos I think it's going the wrong way than I intended it too, which is something I do not want to happen here |

First of all,no dj is universally masturbated over. PvD,Armin and Tiesto all have enuff haters as they have lovers, just look at this forum for proof.
Second of all, the reason why for instance Tidy Boys and Eddie Halliwell aren't as popular as Armin etc. is the fact that they haven't promoted themselves world wide as extensively as Armin and the lot do with tunes,cds,radio broadcasts etc. (at least not what I have seen apart from maybe Eddie,Scott and Matt with Crasher). And if you don't do that then worldwide success will not be within reach. The people you listed are all household UK talent (apart from Hybrid who have gotten enuff succes if you ask me, just look at what happens at their live PAs). All countries have these talents, and lots of ppl hope they will make it big (like me with Haak, Hystereo, Roland Lifjell or Nils Noa for instance). But let's face it, without huge amounts of PR and people that push them and their skills properly they will never make it as far, regardless of how talented they may be. PvD,Armin and Tiesto have all been in this position,but they got lucky, and now look where they are. Who says it can't happen to ppl like the ones you and I are rooting for? |

IMO of the sets I have seen n heard out of the 4;
PVD is outstanding, which to be honest I wasn’t expecting I had heard so many mixed views. I really couldn’t fault him.
Ferry is great and has provided me with one of my favourite nights out this year.
Tiesto (who broke me in) just hasn’t floated my boat consistently with his sets.
AVB although great has not stuck in my memory as much as I thought he would, sound system at gg didn’t help (or mebbe I was too mashed :P)
I’m agreeing with Mikey, the poll is more of a popularity contest across a mass market, and certain dj’s are more accessible to wider audiences and therefore create a greater following regardless of the ability to actually dj. Paul is very accessible his name is very well known, as is Tiestos closely followed by AVB. I think it will be between the latter 2, but believe that PVD at the moment as a dj is just better, just one more tingle after the other. |

Wait, how is Nyana original? As far as I know, he compiled a list of tracks and mixed it.
I think some of us are forgetting DJing is a combination of track selection, set progression and technical ability. All too many of us are too quick to champion a DJ simply because he/she plays the tracks we want to hear. My computer can play the tracks you want to hear. Having said that, how can anyone claim Armin is anywhere near PvD? Unless you're hearing things I'm not, Armin strings tracks together, in no apparent order, and that's it. PvD at least does DJ tricks along side his mixing. (Example Frankfurt 13-09-03 Set) Let's not forget PvD's mixing is better than Armin's. :P
If anyone wants to argue this point, please cite examples. |

PvD's track 'Nothing But You' had a more commerical edge, soooo....my vote has to go with PvD, simply because he seems to have an 'edge' over the other 3, in respect to his name being more known.
But i'm probably talking a load of shat, what do i know :rolleyes:

#1 This is a DJJJJJJ CONTEST not production...i would say nyana is > reflections...but guess what it doesnt matter...being commercial doesnt mean tttttttttttt...when it comes down to mixing, and ing with the crowd, PVD is in the top spot...unless u consider live PA's as djing then NU NRGG :)...Armin plays a lot of boring uplifting stuff, some of it is good but some is trash. Armin should take some lessons from ferry.
ps. being more known WTF does that mean? i think tiesto is prety known |
