New PC reccomendations

I plan to buy a new desktop PC in December and I was thinking about getting what's featured here.: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...-1812&CatId=120
I plan to put more RAM in it immediately after purchase so, don't reccomend me someone else just because of either the RAM amount, HDD capacity, or optical drives packaged in. I'm interested in this PC particularly for its two Intel Xeon hyperthreading processors and the fact that it supports 4 GB of DDR RAM. If anyone can reccomend me someonething that costs ~2000 USD or less that has faster processors and supports more than 4 GB of DDR RAM, post here. Remember, I plan to get it in December unless something MUCH more worth it will come out just afterwards... |

Ditto.
www.newegg.com is all you'll ever need :)
You don't need to pay anyone to build you a killer PC. Do what I did. DO heavy research on every component, and decide what fits you the best. I researched for a month and a half heavily, and I have a killer 2.4C @ 3.2 system right now :) |

Build your own...I had bought a Gateway before this and had some problems with it. So far I'm loving this system I just built.
As stated already, New Egg for everything! |

| Damn. Odd that I forgot about the builing option. But, I don't know how to build a PC... Is it possible to obtain every single componentand make it all work perfectly? What do I do about graphics / sound card driver problems, should they arise? |

if you're looking for something cheap and efficient, get a dell, wait for a free shipping promotions.
but if you want to build. Get a P4 with HT and dual DDR, its the bomb in performance. also a radeon 9600 pro is a must! |

I'd done some previous upgrades to my old computer before building my new one (stuff like graphics/sound cards & ram plus installed a CD-RW). I never messed with installing a processor but it was easy as hell. The only thing that took some time for me was getting all the jumper settings correct and all the extra lights and sensors that are part of my case.
I never really played around with BIOS settings much either but they were simple. And yes, it is possible to obtain every component and make it work perfectly. You can even make some parts work better by overclocking them :D But that generates lots of heat and is only recommended for moderate to advanced users. |

building a pc from scratch is so easy, it proababily takes a full hour too complete a full system including installing the OS, ive learnt everything by myself, the only tricky parts is knowing the motherboard components , e.g IDE1 / IDE2 , floppy controller. if you have 2k to spend on a pc id buy someything like a AMD 3Ghz beast and add some DDR 256MB RAM extra, then your laughing. |

The only thing you should never cheat on is your motherboard.
Do alot of research on the mobo, since it is where your base starts.
Make sure it is compatible with the chipset you want (AMD or Pentium), RAM you need (DDR or RD), and availabel card settings.
Building your own is not always the cheapest, but usually the most satisfying. It is not easy for the first timer to setup a motherboard either. I remember my first time, I thougght I could do it in a few hours, but it took more then 4. If you don't understand jumper settings, and circuit connections, you'll get confused easily.
Build your own, it's the only way to go. |

2k should at least get you 1GB of DDR RAM. I've got 1GB of 400MHz DDR RAM in my computer right now and built the whole thing for $1,400. |

| I definitely agree in building up your own PC, and make sure that it can be upgraded, because once you have it you have it, unless you are moneybags and can buy a new computer whenever you want. Make sure it is solid be it for gaming, digital editing or whatever your fancy. |

i just ordered my new (soon-to-be :p) pc online, as you can see from the other thread, can't wait for it to get here.
yes, motherboards are very important, you can upgrade practically everything on your pc (maybe except a cpu) without much headache, but crappy motherboards will slow your performance down... i'm on a generic IBM pc which was considered good 4 years ago, but man, it has such a crappy motherboard with such a terrible integrated videocard (integrated videocards are in general), that now i'm forced to get a whole new system (almost, with the exception of HD, which i replaced anyway). |
