What is IRC?
Internet Relay Chat, an other chat program? Hmm yeah, but then little different. Normally you chat direct to the person (like AOL MSN ICQ etc.). But IRC works little different, sure you can chat direct to the person in query or DCC chat. But the reason why FXP groups use IRC is the channel function of IRC.
Well when you enter a channel you have rankings (will explain later) so owners of the channel are visible.
How do i enter IRC?
To enter IRC you can use our link on the board called IrcChat. This is a simple java IRC client, but this is only fun for a while. To really have fun on IRC you have to use a client (duhh )
Well how do i enter with a client and how does it work?
It’s not very hard to master, first you need (well u have win32 I assume, else you won’t be reading this faq ;-) ) mIRC. This is an IRC client (well you have lot’s and lot’s of scripts and I won’t handle them) you can get mIRC on http://www.mirc.com or at local tuwocs etc.
After install of Mirc
Well you can play a little in the settings or mIRC it isn’t that hard. But then the commands of IRC are harder so let me explain.
Commands in IRC
Connecting to a server:
Well very simple in the status windows there is a bar were you can type, type this:
/server servername:6667
To log on to the server of FXPonline try this:
/server Irc.nijenrode.nl
You are connected now what’s next?
Nick setup:
Well setting up your nick is also very handy (if you haven’t set it in the settings) to change your nick type:
/nick New Nick
Registering and recovering your nick with nickserv: <- not avaliable on efnet
Well probably your nick isn’t registered else a weirdo called nickserv will bug you saying that this is not you nick, if so please change you nick, some else already registered it.
If it is your first time to the network it’s smart to register you nickname type this:
/msg nickserv register *password for nickname* *your e-mail*
So when ever someone has taken your nickname you can recover it like this:
/msg nickserv recover *you nickname* *password for your nickname*
Identifying to nickserv: <- not avaliable on efnet
So now you are logged on to the network and registered your nickname, well now every time you logg on you have to type this to identify yourself to chanserv:
/msg nickserv identify
And then you are recognized
Joining channels:
Now you’ve set up your nickname and your ready to join a channel type this (also in status window):
/join #channel name example to join the FXPonline channel:
/join #FXPonline
(to see a complete list of channels that are on the server type /list)
Extra IRC knowledge:
Now you have just joined a channel (congrats) but the you see some weird stuff (there are 2 windows or more open now, so you see 2 blocks with one saying status and one with the channel name well this is you Taskbar and it works the same as your windows taskbar click to change window)
But then you see a large (normal white will change colors later) window and a split thingy with all sorts of names on it. Well all the names are the peepz who joined just like you the channel but there is a ranking in it:
Peepz with a @ in front of there name are the channel operators (owner of the channel) they can kick/ban/voice/ you etc.
Peepz with a % in front of there name are half operators they are not owners but have some kick/ban/voice option but only peeps with a lower rank then them.
Peepz with a + in front of there name are friends of the channel, the have voice operators and half operators can give it.
And then there are normal peepz who are in the channel.
Private Msg's
If you want to talk to a person in a channel personal you can do this in 2 ways:
Right click on his name in the channel (then you will some a list of features)
To privately chat with someone press on query this will open new window were you can chat with that person in private or type: /msg *nickname* message this will not open a query window for you but will send a private msg to this person.
When you get a private msg, you get one extra window in your tray bar, click to see what he says.
Colors of mIRC:
But then I can understand you want to get rid of the ugly white background color, well this is easy done to:
Press ALT+K and then you see a window were you can change the colors.
Typing in mIRC:
Talking in a channel, well this has a few functions to:
Press CTRL+K and you can talk with colors !
Press CTRL+B to talk bold
Press CTRL+U to talk underlined
Press CTRL+I to talk italic
Going away in IRC:
When you go away well simply set your nick to Nickname[Away] of [AFK] etc. with /nick awaynick
And if you use an away timer set this to a hour or more.
IRC rulez:
Well no flooding in a channel (like pasting lines of text etc.)
No site advertisement
No personal info
Do not give FTP site’s, give them in a query to a person.
Obey the operators.

alles lukt totdat ik bij stap vijf kom, er bestaat geen #taforum....dit is wat er staat als ik /join #taforum intyp:

| ja klopt, het was me al gelukt, die laatste post van mij moest er eigenlijk helemaal niet staan, ik was hem aan het typen toen het me lukte, ik was zeker net iets te laat met mn browser te sluiten ofzo, ik had bij stap vijf iets verkeerds ingevuld. |

Welke ing server gebruik jij??
Dan kan de rest die server ook gebruiken
Ik kom er iig ook niet in :(
