Whats the deal with calling things after their brand name?

I used to work with a canadian girl and she would always say "Where's the Scott Towels?"
First time I heard her say it (she was saying it fast) I was like "What the is a Scottow?"
I finally realized she was asking for a paper towel.

You forget the American Way of arrogance and just non-chalant play and realizing- oh - we might lose- and then they try.

What bothers me A LOT is that it is perfectly acceptable for black people to call white people here honkies and whitey or whatever- but GOD ing help you if a white person calls a black person N*gger or something-

Seriously- slavery was how long ago? How long do you get to play the slavery card and think you can get away with it? Get over it. happens.
I am not racist by any means- but unfortunately, and I hate to make a generalization about this, most black people are WAY more racist than white people now days. Of course I am speaking of in the US. I really couldnt say how it is elsewhere.

On the issue of generalized racism, I agree that many blacks tend to be very judgemental and some outright racist in dealing with whites, but I think it is more ignorance and history that plays a role in that. Being an avid fan of Trance music and the EDM genre in general, I have gotten to know many white people in my life and most of my friends today are white. From an historical standpoint it wasn't blacks that enslaved whites, it wasn't blacks that set up Jim Crow laws for segregation in the South, it was blacks that lived in a nation that preached equality for all men, and yet were denied the right to vote for so long. My point is that the attitudes of some blacks today towards whites are an expression of social injustices-Poverty, Inequality, Discrimination, Elitism,etc. That have long plagued humanity. Racism of any sort is uneqivocally dead wrong. I for one can give a damn if someone is black or white, as long as that person respects me, then I will show them respect and that is that.

Never underestimate the power of history, it is 2003 but the consequences of past actions are not inseparable from today's society.

On the terms that other people use in their languages, live and let die. Its all part of their culture, and that is what EDM is all about, different people coming together as we all know on this board. I enjoy being able to go into the French, German, Italian, Spanish and Dutch sections since I speak those languages and see the terms that they use in their respective languages.

Well- I hate to make a generalization but most of the time- people who scream injustice or racism are just lazy and dont want to work for something and just want it to be handed to them.

I dont care if you're black, white, brown, yeller, You have to earn my respect- I am not just going to give it to you because of something that happened before I was born.

I dunno bout ya'll but Im glad we all say things differently and call things by different names. Im not from a southern state, but here in baltimore (bawlmer) we say things a lil different.
" Im gonna warsh my hair in the zink" Im going to wash my hair in the sink.
wodder=water
libarry=library
tuesdee=tuesday
doublya=W
we say all kinds of silly things. And I like it!

And on that you are absolutely right, people should be judged on their character rather than stereotypes. Blatant racism by blacks of whites is no less of racism than the other way around. I truly hope that the day can come in society when people can fully view each other irrespective of race. With that said I will take being black in the U.S.A any day versus any other place, I came to this nation @ the age of 12 and fully respect the fact that I was able to get a college education, and now pursuing grad school for foreign policy studies. Could I do that as an immigrant in any part of Africa without a lot of money, think about it. God Bless America

Unfortunately- California has a problem with helping poor white boys try to get an education though. I had to wait till I could pay for it myself. The University of california is turning away "people" who has a much higher GPA "mostly white people" in order to admit more ethnic people and have a more diverse campus. THIS IS SO WRONG.

Sorry- I would be pissed if I had a 4.0 and was denied from UCLA or something to someone with a 3.5 and all the same activities only because they were Asian. (Which is usually the case in SoCal)

I dont think there will ever be a happy medium. Someones always going to bitch about something.

How can u criticise Football? It is the most popular game in the world, it is the most passionate!(go to a Celtic, Newcastle, or the little team down the road called Mansfield Town Football Club and u would see more passionate than u could believe)

Football rules, it rules throught entertainment, skill and enduance. Anybody seen Beckham hit a 50 yard ball and see it land in a precise nd perfect spot - That is skill. Anyone see Roberto Carlos take a outswinging corner and bend it into the top corner. Anyone can play football, you just need a ball. How can anyone player american football, or basketball with just a ball. It was because it was developed as a Working Class game.

Football is starting to be taken over by money, but IMO American sports are already there.

Football is culture in England definately. IF England ever win the world cup or Euro2004, then our whole country would come to a standstill. U just have to look at our nation when we beat Germany 5-1! Boring?????? HAHA whatever!

U need a sport where ur whole country can come together. It brings unity, passion and pride, and its also ok to boast about. Gives a change from state sports!
