How can u criticise Football? It is the most popular game in the world, it is the most passionate!(go to a Celtic, Newcastle, or the little team down the road called Mansfield Town Football Club and u would see more passionate than u could believe)
Football rules, it rules throught entertainment, skill and enduance. Anybody seen Beckham hit a 50 yard ball and see it land in a precise nd perfect spot - That is skill. Anyone see Roberto Carlos take a outswinging corner and bend it into the top corner. Anyone can play football, you just need a ball. How can anyone player american football, or basketball with just a ball. It was because it was developed as a Working Class game.
Football is starting to be taken over by money, but IMO American sports are already there.
Football is culture in England definately. IF England ever win the world cup or Euro2004, then our whole country would come to a standstill. U just have to look at our nation when we beat Germany 5-1! Boring?????? HAHA whatever!
U need a sport where ur whole country can come together. It brings unity, passion and pride, and its also ok to boast about. Gives a change from state sports! |
Sorry- I am going to get flamed but whatever-
Everyone loves soccer there because What does it cost to play there? What do you need to play? One round rock of some sort- Anyone can play it- It's for poor people who grow up to play and maybe have SOMETHING to look forward to in life.
Face it- Sports in general is JUST A GAME. A whole country STOPPING because some idiot curved a ball into a goal is rediculous. Seriously- get a life. |

Hey Kaos my man-don't forget all those soccer moms that take their kids to games in suburbia, fastest growing sport among young kids in America. You should know that being out in California, where it is popular among kids.
I personally feel that Football (Soccer) is the best sport in the world, when you look at the global dimenions of it. No matter where you go it's played, whether you have fancy cleats or you are bare footed, you can play it on a trimmed pitch or a dusty beach, I love the color and passion of different nations coming together in pageantry and celebration of their different cultures. Can't wait till Deutschland 2006. |

I can't argue with your unity point...nor fan excitement. Honestly, the fans when they come together is what usually makes a sport more exciting. Any game is boring to watch if there isn't a crowd involved, imo. A great hockey game with 0 people in the stands would be lame, just as a soccer...erm football game would be...Fan interaction with the ooo's and ahh's make the whole "excitement" factor. And I also think it's the "best sport in the world"...it's just not the best sport for me :)
As for unity over the mighty dollar in America....I think the last time we saw that was in 1980 when an Amateur U.S. hockey team stunned the world and won gold at the olympics. It was our 'Miracle on Ice', it brought our country together during a rather tough time, and was due cause for celebration. It was voted the greatest moment in U.S. sports for the 20th century...and it wasn't even a true U.S. sport at a Global Event. Go Figure, we may never see anything like that again. :D :D :D
I watched doubles badmitten on TV the other day....now that was exciting...ROFL.
Still about the money.
A word i don't like is "hella-" followed by any word. Lame. |

American Football? Don't get me started. They all wear big pads and helmets like little girls. In Rugby or Rugby League (similar to Rugby), they wear no pads or helmets and they hit just as hard, if not more than NFL players. Don't they have breaks in the NFL games for TV? as in the whole game stops so that they can have commercials. During the game, they all line up, throw the ball, then the person gets tackled (sacked?) and the whole game stops for about 5 minutes. Also, they basically have two teams - one for offence and one for defence. Now that is very wussy, not to mention lame.
Still, my point remains. You cannot criticise other sports such as soccer when USA has the NFL. |
I've played football, in highschool not professionally hehe. But I tell you what it definitely hurts more with pads than without pads. If you have never played American rules football then you stfu because your just as ignorant to this sport as other people who have never played Aussie rules/rugby. I'm pretty sure those same rugby/aussie rules football guys are alot smaller than those guys playin in the NFL.
no disrepect these sports, i'm sure their great in their own way. |

Unfortunately- California has a problem with helping poor white boys try to get an education though. I had to wait till I could pay for it myself. The University of california is turning away "people" who has a much higher GPA "mostly white people" in order to admit more ethnic people and have a more diverse campus. THIS IS SO WRONG.
Sorry- I would be pissed if I had a 4.0 and was denied from UCLA or something to someone with a 3.5 and all the same activities only because they were Asian. (Which is usually the case in SoCal)

I hope you know that Asians were not considered minorities when they drafted the plan for no more affirmative action in the UC system. The ratio of Asians going to the UC's (and other high caliber institutions) is much higher in proportion than their population base in the states. So I very much doubt that the white person is being passed over for somebody that was Asian. |

Sorry- I dont have the website or the study in front of me- but it was compared and studied and there were more cases than there should have been where a minority was admitted before a caucasian. I only use asians because they were the majority of the minority.
I was only bringing up that point to show how people who havnt earned something expect it these days because they are a minority- If you tell them to earn it- they scream racism. |

I played football up till college- I've played rugby. There is no comparison. Football is much more difficult.
Professional wise- Look at skilled positioned across the board on all sports- How many people are actually good on their prospective teams and others just taking up space. American football has by far to most skill involved out of any of the sports. Factor in strength and conditioning. Then it's really no contest. |

sorry bud. i hate to shatter your childhood illusions, but no, the US doesn't have that great a basketball team :P at least, they're not that much better than a third world contry's ragtag bunch of farmers. |
So we never actually lost then eh. Too bad you couldn't just cut out the last few minutes of a game to win, but they are there for a reason. Its really hard for me to make a sweeping statement but I think in the case of basketball, america has it. You can argue many other sports, football(a.k.a soccer), hockey and prolly a lot more that america sucks, but basketball Im sorry, american owns all. |
