#1, the only real reason this place is going no alcohol is probably the licensing issues, and ensuing cop harrassment the process would entail for a place like this. for recent examples in TO, Spincat, Exit, etc
#2 A small fortune in cover to see a DJ that another venue will have in TO within the year isn't worth it. I guess in Montreal you don't have as much of a choice as us? (I have no idea, but why else pay so much just to get into a normal party?)
High cover, elitist attitude is not the way to survive in such a cutthroat environment.. especially with no other source of income into the club outside of cover and bottled water.. just doesn't seem like decent business sense (unless of course they get their fair share of the crack being dealt*wink*) |
seeing how things are in toronto, it doesn't surprise me to get answers like this...
i dont want to argue with you man... believe what you want :gsmile: |

that's how it is man...if you're not serving alcohol, you have to bring in the majority of your revenue through the door price...get used to it.

i dunno...he hasn't been here in like a year and a half. i'm pretty sure he also has residencies at stereo (fri) and arc (sat), so i don't know if he'll necessarily be coming here all that often.
as for this over 21 thing, i'm loving it. then again, i'm a snob. :D |

i prefer bars with no alcohol sometimes...
normal bar with booze and $10 cover and I cannot go w/o spending at least $50 a night....
so $30 cover, one bottle of water, and some party favors, and it's the same price, and a much better night :)
ideally they will sell cheaper advance tickets to make some of the people happy |

I dunno what you consider a small fortune, but I am sure if System was bringing him in they would charge at least $25 for the night too. So $30 for that 12 hour party doesn't sound that bad... plus I've heard that the club itself is like whoa!!!  |

I believe you, another visit to the guv is due then ;) |
Eh, I wouldn't hold your breath, you'd be making many trips. Of the near two dozen times I've been to the Guv, only ONCE have I heard the system sound crisp (which is why I even believe it's possible) and a few other times alright. Rest of the time either way too loud, too distorted, or both, not to mention the spotty sound that was mentioned.
Having just spent my birthday weekend fighting the killer flu from hell that ruined all my plans including attending the TA X-mas party at System, seeing Sander in a new venue sounds like a good way of getting my own back next Saturday. This will be very high on the list, especially if a good number of TAs committ to going! |

I dont think $30 to hear a DJ drop an EXTENDED set is alot to ask. Go to any other city in the world and expect to pay as much if not more than that.
I dont know about everyone else but id RATHER DROP some extra $$$ to hear a DJ spin a longer set in a nicer venue with a CRAZY ASS SOUNDSYSTEM which is what im hoping Boa will have, as opposed to getting in for free @ ratty System Soundbar to hear a DJ spin a shorter set on a crappy sound-system but hey thats just me.
We always complain about not getting the same treatment other cities get when big DJS come to town (ie. no extended sets for us), well here is our chance to show we deserve something like this. I will be there bouncing off the walls to Sander. ANYWAYS I cant wait for Saturday!
should be an amazing party! |

I'm still wondering what kind of clientelle will the club attract...
And considering speed isn't a drug of choice here in Toronto(unlike MTL), I'd be very surprised if people will stay until 12AM.
BTW: Montreal is probably the only city in the world that has so many clubs operating till afternoon hours. Even in UK most afterhorus clubs close at 7 or 8 in the morning. |
