had a very good night. Liked crush by PVD, and ferry's stuff. Might sound a bit weird but i love it when the crowd join in, 5,000 people chanting along to 'punk' I thought was amazing, can't really remember much else, head's in a bit of a mess at the moment, not gonna broadcast it on the board, but the guys who were with me on the way home know what's up, i probably shouldn't have mentioned it when you asked, but i didn't know what else to say!! Just what i needed to deal with on a comedown:rolleyes: , but never mind, happens, chin up and get on with it i guess.
And why the do i always manage to look like a miserable when people take piccies of me:mad:  , explanations please |

here's a review my mate (younglynch)wrote about the event yesterday while bored at work:
Given advance flight bookings/tickets etc for Gatecrasher NEC, we couldn't
make the gig at the Point on Saturday night. Typical that two decent gigs
(Gods at the point & Crasher at the NEC) should clash. Nevertheless, the
night was nothing short of phenomenal.
At Dublin Airport, we met with our other trance, techno and hard house heads
from Limerick and Dublin. These are the people that we only ever meet at
club events, particularly UK events - Godskitchen mostly. Getting on the
plane was another story. While there were about 8 of us as a group heading
over, there were about 30 others on the 18.25 Ryanair flight with similar
intentions!
Landing at Birmingham, we took a trip to the bureau de change, burger king
and the pub. The shuttle train then took us to the NEC Arena where we were
greeted by two queues, both disgracefully long with thousands in each queue.
Gloriously skipping to the front, surviving the charade of sniffer dogs, the
'old bill' and some serious searching, we finally gained access to the
lobby.
Thump thump thump as we passed through the stalls, first-aid and merchandise
area of the Gatecrasher Arena. After a wait and re-grouping, we took a trip
into the main Arena to the sounds of Gabriel & Dresden. Tiesto was due on
next, although the next DJ announced was Scott Bond. This was typical of the
line-ups in each of the arenas for the night... no DJ played at the timeslot
advertised! Damn that £5 I paid for a round-my-neck program.
While Scott Bond was pretty good and techno-trancy, I ventured alone to
Frantic to see Eddie Halliwell... he was due on at the same time as Tiesto
and since Tiesto wasn't there, it was a worthwhile gamble. Frantic was less
packed than Crasher and the tunes were harder and faster... but they weren't
Eddies tunes! "Cally & Juice" were on... again at a different time as
advertised. I stuck it out for a while then headed back to Crasher.
Back at Crasher, Motorcycle were just finishing "As the rush comes" live.
Was sorry I missed that one. Next up: Tiesto? NO! It was Paul Van Dyk. First
tune: "Time of our lives" LIVE. We heard this in Godskitchen in Birmingham
about a month ago and in all fairness - its crap. After worming through an
ecstatic crowd, our group a family again. Van Dyk played a mid to high
energy set... a few unheard tunes and many from sets recently played in
Ibiza. Throw in a few fireworks displays, visuals and confetti and overall
it was a tremendous show.
After a few corny words appearing on the massive screens e.g. "Tiesto on
Plane" and "Plane Landed" (What Rubbish!), Tiesto finally came on with a
"VANDIT" T-Shirt. Unusual methinks. Maybe a deal was struck between PvD and
Tiesto himself back-stage. When he finally landed on stage... he did so with
no introduction - just with a seamless continuation of PvD's final tune. The
set was average-good with the usual Tiesto trance genre with a touch of
techno. Many of the tunes played were from Tiesto in concert and other
recent sets which we have downloaded. The set however suffered interference
from sound irregularities, loss of bass and at one stage, loss of sound
altogether.
Armin Van Buuren & Ferry Corsten played roughly an hour each respectively.
Armin shook hands with Tiesto as he took to the decks. Ferry came on and we
all cringed when he played "Digital Punk" (as per usual). When will he ever
do a set without it. One woman on the plane home praised Ferry's "brilliant
set" that "went on for 3 and a half hours!". What gig was she at??
An unfortunate end to the night was Judge Jules (but not his set) and some
muppet MC that was dancing stupidly around the stage telling us all that we
were special and we are gatecrasher. Sorry to burst his bubble but he dances
stupidly, we are not that special and gatecrasher is a company. Jules, while
he played a good set, is just hard to enjoy since we aren't all fans of his
style and his waving of the Irish flag back in Gods @ the Point last March -
very emotional.
With a few more visuals, explosions and fireworks the night\morning came to
an end. The venue emptied fast and it was back on the shuttle to the Airport
for 3 hours waiting. Two Drogheda girls who were to fly home earlier than us
realised that they had booked the return flight as Monday morning (today) as
opposed to Sunday morning. Broke and facing a £100Stg rebooking fee, they
were forced to stay in the airport from yesterday morning till today. Our
thoughts are with them.
The atmosphere on the plane home was more of 'sore heads' as opposed to 'off
our heads'. We got a bit of craic out of the stewardesses and talked crap to
each other all the way home. Our country was well represented. Louth, Dublin
City & County, Limerick, Meath, Cork and most likely many more heads were in
attendance.
Some of us that were there of message board fame - Tranceaddict Boards,
Godskitchen Boards and the Irish one I can't think of were there: Myself
(Younglynch), Mate Tristan (diego), Limerick head Trevor (t-man), Dublin 4
girl (LisaLavish) and a load more of our mates. |

Nice set but short. Why can't us blokes in the US of A get these media types to broadcast this on the radio? I was at NYC Summerstage and the last Roxy gig to see PvD and have yet to see any live sets from those.
Damn it ain't fair I tell ya. :whip: :whip: :whip: |

| WOW!!!! GC@NEC is definately not a nite im gonna forget netime in the near future ... definately well worth the trip down from rochester... the Q kinda pissed me of cuz i was looking forward to seeing G&D and only got into the mainroom when PVD and vega were doing TOOL.... newayz the music was not what left me speechless... PVD i thought was just 2 which was kinda surprising cuz i usually just find him bad but this time he just played one to many breakbeats ... tiesto was tiesto ... armin was gr8 but ive seen him to better and ferry was definately the best of the nite IMO ... but wat truely blew me away was the atmosphere of the event... ive never seen to many ppl in costume at these kinda parties ... also the fireworks were a 1st fo me ...met quite a few TA's but cant remember ne names but the ppl were really really friendly which is a pleasant contrast from what i had heard b4 experiencing it for myself ... didnt end up going to GC@heaven cuz i hit Elysium at cafe royale instead but il get over it ... but if this really is the last GC@NEC then im going to b a shattered man else im coming down again next year ... |
